Elijah’s wings vibrated with desperation. “He knows the truth, Rhea. You must let him go.”

“No…”

But I fought, too.

Still in Onus’s wonderful little cabin, I was shocked to find myself out of the shower, standing in his living room. The morning sun was gone, night having arrived once again. I was losing time yet gaining Onus’s rage. He had a hold of my shoulders and was violently shaking me.

Spit flew as he roared, “You were to kill me that night we met? Not my father?”

Wind blew through my wet hair as Elijah pushed his feet off his gray cloud. “Stop fighting me, Rhea. It’s over. He’s gone now.”

I growled in his face. “I must do something, you frigid soul. Let me go!”

Time passing so differently from one realm to another, now the roots of my hair burned as Onus dragged me across dirt and rocks to the edge of a huge hole in the ground. “Want to see what happens to stupid bitches who fuck with me?”

I was struggling to hold his hands and take pressure off my aching skull. “Onus! Let me explain!” Naked, with bruises I didn’t remember acquiring, I was flipped to my stomach. Onus’s strength was doubling, leaving my human form at his mercy.

My hair still held in his tight grip, he suspended my upper body over the edge of the hole, over carnage I’d never seen up close. Young bones littered the bottom of the huge hole that resembled a burning pit for trash or large tree branches. But children’s bones?

In the arms of my friend who was trying to spare me, I screamed, “Noooooooo! Onus, no!” Seeing his cruel side—the reason he belonged with my enemy—was making my human form implode with agony.

Elijah begged, “Rhea, you must stay with me. I’ve been shown what is coming—”

“Release me!”

My soul back in my human form, on Fallen Gods’ property, my ribs screamed in protest as I curled into a ball and lay on my side, still feeling the phantom pain of a biker boot kick. Onus was standing over me, warning someone, “Weatherman, stay fucking out of this, or I will kill you, too.”

Shocked at how tired and cold my body was, I dared to peer up and see this ‘weather man’ as he pleaded, “Boy, we don’t hurt the ones we love.”

Due to my remaining deity abilities, I noticed a glowing string of light coming from Weatherman. It was trying to touch Onus’s chest but failing since he was owned by another now.

Instantly, I recognized the soul connection. Whether Onus was aware of it or not, he was yelling at his biological father.

Over my trembling body, Onus shoved him. “Fuck you, old man!”

Elijah’s head was leaned back, watching above us as he flew me higher and higher into the stormy sky. Veins strained in his neck as he fearfully grunted, “Stay with me, Rhea! I beg of you!”

“No!” I demanded, knowing where he was taking me. “I’m staying with him!”

Limply, I hung over Onus’s shoulder. The devil’s heat radiated off him to such a degree, I weakly pushed on his back to lift a part of me off him. That put me face to face with Weatherman and the horror on his face. “My boy! Be better than him!”

Onus spun in a rush to yell his reply, causing my body to sway off balance.

Again, trying to get away from his newfound heat that was burning the deity in me, I saw I was at the door of a warehouse. We were on another part of the Fallen Gods’ property.

The door was opened by a man pulling up then buttoning his jeans. He was damp with sweat and trying to catch his breath. “What’s going on out here?”

Like a ragdoll, I flopped against Onus’s back as he spun again. “Putting this puta where she belongs.”

Being carried inside the warehouse, I watched Weatherman grab his chest in relief. I wasn’t being murdered tonight.

As soon as we were inside, Onus lifted me from his shoulder to hold me in front of him.

Still hoping I could spare Onus any anguish from the horrible fate I caused, I attempted to touch his face. “Dancing souls—”

Not weighing a pound in his tight grip, he put us face-to-face then sneered, “Fuck. You.” Then I went soaring into the air.

Elijah’s wings fought hard to take me higher, trying to take me home. “Rhea! Let him go! Stay with me!”
