I came too, screaming at my wife, “What do you want now?”

Blackout.

Screams of terror brought me back. I was now by the bed, a bloodied knife in my hand, and a dead wife at my feet.

Piercer was holding a screaming Anita’s face to his chest, trying to block her from the gory sight. “What have you done?”

Rosa, dressed but with wet hair from the shower, was also at my feet. It was pitiful, but she seemed to be in shock as she was scooping my wife’s blood from the floor and into her palms, trying to put it back inside her dead body.

Blackout.

Weatherman was now with a hand on my shoulder as he gave out firm demands to everyone. “You get Pearl out of here…. You get him to his bike… You take Rosa…”

Blackout.

Then time began to skip altogether. The beast in me had taken over…

I was back at home, and Rosa’s belly was big. “Babe! You’re pregnant!”

Her eyes got so wide. “Onus! Onus! You’re back!”

Blackout.

“They will kill me like I killed my father.” I was trembling, huddled in a corner of my bedroom.

Rosa was crying, holding me. “Onus, come back to me. My sun, yours will never betray you.”

Blackout.

Screams brought me to, again. They were Rosa’s. She was hysterical, calling out, “Elijah! Elijah! Take them home!”

Who home? We are home…

My hands. They were covered in blood again. This time, my sons’.

My mouth was full.

I was eating them.

Blackout.

The next time I came to, it was due to lightning. It flashed, boomed and thundered… I was in the rain, trampling through woods beyond my property, and I was pissed, looking for my pregnant Rosa. Weatherman and Piercer were with me. We had flashlights, searching for the two women who had somehow found a way to escape.

In an open field, lightning crashing, we came to a body.

Air left my lungs when I saw it was Rosa.

My Little Hellion was dead.

I fell to my knees. “No.”

Having lost so much time and being confused, I was distraught to see her belly no longer extended with my son while I picked up her soaked body. There was blood everywhere, mixed within the mud.

“Babe,” I cried. “Where did you go?”

“Peeeeeeearl!” screamed a manic Piercer.

Weatherman laid his hands on my shoulders. “She’s gone, son.”
