He seethed, “To take back what your bitch mother stole from me.”

Putting the back of my hand to Diesel’s chest, he stopped moving forward to punish Onus again. I promised the prez, “You can have a long turn before I set Dio loose on him.” Dio didn’t get to put Piercer to ground to avenge my Ani. He was going to have this kill to avenge us all.

Onus wasn’t going to let me see him squirm. “Fuck that devil ‘warrior’ and his bullshit ways, fucking up my business.”

Full-heartedly, I said, “He’s more man than you will ever be.”

“Not for lack of me trying,” Onus countered.

I looked at Stew, Art, Chubs, and Roamer. “Swear to secrecy, or get the fuck out.”

Their eyes were full of such an immense amount of loyalty, I didn’t need them to reply.

Not that they got a chance to before Onus spat, “To the grave they will take it because they’re a bunch of pussies, like youuuuuuu.” He held the sound of the ‘u’ while staring me down.

To be compared to men who put their lives on the line for Rya was hardly an insult, so I moved the conversation along. “How does Dio fuck up your business?”

“The community.” His teeth were bloody as he smiled cheerfully. “So many of us make money off the innocent.”

Now Roamer had a hold of Chubs, who clearly wanted a round with Onus.

This only pleased Onus. Chubs had grown up with him. “Oh, your road name is from constant boners, yet you want to be all ‘savior’ like now?”

“Fuck you, Onus. I’d never fuck a child.”

His hands were getting red from being suspended for a while, yet he didn’t let it affect him. Or his mood as he sang-sung, “But you’d sell one.”

Chubs was becoming a rabid dog. “I was trying to get intel on Titans, you son of a bitch!”

Swaying on his chains for entertainment, Onus wiped his mouth on his arm. “That I am! With a capital B.” Then he stopped, patronizingly saying, “Too bad you didn’t get back to Demi in time—”

As it took everyone to hold both Chubs and Stew back, Onus went back to swaying and even spinning on the chains. “I heard it was quite a show.”

I grimaced. “Onus, for fuck’s sake! That little girl needed surgery!”

“I didn’t have to pay the bill.” He lifted a foot, trying to tap Diesel. “But this guy did!” He sang again, then … he laughed.

Diesel grimaced in disgust. “What did she ever see in you?”

Laughter ended in a second, and Onus snarled as if Diesel had spoken blasphemy. “Who said she saw anything in me?”

Unable to comprehend why the woman he thought of after all these years could possibly love this vile man, Diesel stated, “She did.”

Onus went pale. “What?”

Abruptly, my palm scar burned, the pain eliciting a thought… “Why did you cut me?”

It took a moment, but Onus eventually pulled his stare from Diesel. “Needed something.”

“What?”

“The gift she gave you.”

My mind began to spin with understanding. “That’s it, isn’t it? It was a gift. What she gave you, she took back. That’s why you hate me. She let me keep mine.”

Onus rolled his eyes, swinging from the chain again, acting nonchalant. “That imagination is getting you nowhere, Hellion.”

Oh, I’m seeing through you now. “What did she ‘steal’ from you, then?”
