“Then you’re welcome to come with us if you don’t have other plans.” She smiled, brushing a hand over her son's head. “Amel is very excited about our outing today, but I feel like he’s going to be sorely disappointed when all he gets is an empty space that might potentially work for my new location.”

“Mommy, it’s your school.”

“It is, honey. Go get your sister’s bag for me so we can head out.”

“Okay.” He took off running and she explained, “Dance Academy. I’ve been toying with the idea a lot lately and looking at locations. Elias set this one up. He thinks it will be perfect.”

“Oh, that’s nice.”

“It’s access.” She grinned and rolled her eyes. “But I’m not complaining. I want him around as much as he wants to be around.”

I nodded knowingly. I had that same feeling about the other Omari brother. “I love you guys’ relationship and I’ve barely been exposed to how you love each other.”

“I’m pretty sure you’re traveling down the same road. There’s something so rare and beautiful about being loved by an Omari man. You have barely scratched the surface of what it means to be the focus of their attention, but I’m biased so...” She smiled softly and lifted her shoulder into a lazy shrug.

“Which scares the shit out of me because it’s already so much more than I can process most days.”

“Oh you poor thing. You have no idea.” She laughed, shaking her head.

“Mommy, here.” Amel returned dragging a sleek leather tote which he tried unsuccessfully to hurl at his mother. She reached for the straps and looped them over her shoulder.

“Thanks, baby.”

“You need help?” She seemed to have it all together but I still offered.

“Nope, I have a system. I’m used to the routine of these two but you’re welcome to come with.”

“Sure, let me get my stuff and I’ll meet you in the garage.”

“Sounds good. I could use another set of eyes to help me decide. Elias agrees to whatever he thinks I want which isn’t always helpful. That man loves me too much to be impartial.”

“I’m beginning to understand what that feels like. But I don’t think I’ll be much help.”

She nodded with a knowing smile.

“As long as you’re objective versus telling me what I want to hear then you’ll help.”

“Then maybe I should have insight on what you need because I don’t know shit about what works for a dance academy?”

She adjusted Ava who was grabbing at the straps of her bag. “I need convenience, comfort, space to grow, and an environment conducive to facilitating happiness and inspiration for little creatives.”

“And what do youwant?”

“All of the above but turnkey and ready for my little dancers to learn and grow.”

“Hmm, so pretty much the impossible.”

“That would be correct.”

“You might be in luck then. That’s right up my alley. Give me like two minutes to get my things and I’ll be ready.”

“Perfect. I’ll see you outside.”

I turned to leave and paused. “Oh wait, which garage? We have four.”

She held up two fingers and turned to leave. “Come on, buddy.” She glanced over her shoulder one last time and added, “You saidwe, Jhorie. Looks like you’re already accepting your role as being a part of this family.”

Well shit. I guess I was.
