Ezekiel.

I sat across from Jhorie, admiring her intelligence and beauty, although I had to admit my focus for the last hour had been more on her physical appearance. The woman had the most intriguing features. Beautiful white teeth highlighted by a flawless smile, a beauty mark sitting perfectly positioned between the tip of her cheekbone and the length of her lower lashes. Cat-shaped eyes with keen observance and those damn lips. The lower one slightly larger than the top, both pouty and full and reminders of how satisfying they’d felt gliding up and down my dick.

This woman had my full attention but what I couldn’t figure out was whether I was drawn in because she was off limits or if I was truly interested. Beautiful and smart women were in abundance in my world but this one had me curious in a desperate way.

“That night, you mentioned a recent breakup…”

The night we’d slept together. A night I had trouble forgetting as easily as I’d assumed I would. A night I was thinking about right now when I needed to think of anything but.

When my thoughts cleared enough to escape my head and my eyes actually focused on her, I realized I’d interrupted her mid-sentence. The frown marring her pretty face further confirmed I had been distracted so I circled back. She was staring in a mildly concerned manner.

“I’m sorry, you were saying…” I had no clue what I had interrupted.

“That this wine was a perfect blend of full bodied and sweet.”

“It is. If you like it, I can have a case sent to you…”

“No, you don’t have to do that. I’m sure it’s very expensive and I’m not interested in accepting expensive gifts from my boss.”

“I’m a colleague not your boss. Although the wine is very expensive I wouldn’t have to pay for the case. The owner is a friend of mine.”

“Shouldn’t you patronize your friends' businesses?”

Amusement settled into my expression. “You should. And I would love to, however, she partially credits me for the success of her company.”

“You invested?”

I shook my head. “No, but I would have. I offered. She refused. Very stubborn, much like someone else I know.” My eyes fastened with hers. “But she was having an issue securing the land her vineyard is on now. The city kept giving her pushback and I called in a few favors. She now has her vineyard, out near Blue Mountain Resort, and a very successful winery. She refuses any purchases with my name connected and instead sends me more wine than I could drink in a lifetime. I have enough to share.”

“Well then I accept.” She smiled brightly. “This is some damn good wine.”

“I’ll be sure to let her know you approve. Maybe we can tour the vineyard and winery when you have some free time?”

“I don’t have free time. My priority right now is work.”

“All things require balance and since your priority is work, can I assume that you’re still unattached?”

“Why are you so interested in my relationship status?”

“I’m interested inyouas a colleague. Your attachments are a part of who you are, which I’m sure you’re well aware of.”

“I am very aware however my attachments have nothing to do with my qualifications or have you changed your mind about that?”

My dick received the challenge and flexed. This woman didn’t back down from me like most. She seemed to enjoy engaging me, pushing my limits and authority. I really enjoyed that aspect of her character.

“I have not. If anything I’m more convinced you are a perfect fit.”

“Then I choose not to discuss my personal situation unless you’re demanding I have to.”

“Not demanding…”

But hopeful you would be open to sharing.

“Good then we have an understanding.”

“Indeed we do. How about I get the check then get you home? It’s late.”

Surprise flashed across her features. She wasn’t expecting me to end dinner. The evening had been quite enjoyable on both ends from what I could tell, but her refusal to let me in had somehow soured my mood.
