“For what?” Sam asked.
“For letting me be part of that,” I explained. “For letting me say goodnight to him.”“Of course,” she replied, reaching out and taking my hand in hers. “Ryan, I want you to know that I genuinely want to talk about you being in Henry’s life. I think it would be good for him, and I’d like to have you around.”
I froze, my heart racing as I stared down at her in surprise and delight.
Swallowing, I mumbled, “You have no idea how happy that makes me, Sam. I swear, you won’t regret this.”
Her smile was soft as she nodded. “I believe that, Ryan. I really do. I think there’s something here that’s worth working on.”
I lifted her hand to my lips and kissed her fingers.
“Sleep in my bed tonight,” I murmured.
Her eyes widened slightly, and her cheeks turned pink, but her gaze was heated.
“Is that a good idea? What about Henry…?”
“He’s sleeping like a log,” I assured her. “He won’t wake up, and if he does, would it be so bad for us to be in the same bed?”
She licked her lips nervously and appeared thoughtful for a moment.
At length, she said, “All right. I’ll sleep with you, but if he catches us together, we need to have some explanation ready. Like we’re having a sleepover…or you’re scared of the dark.”
I grinned and nodded.
“All right. I’m scared of the dark and you’re just keeping me company. I can go with that.”
She relaxed and gave me a soft smile. I squeezed her hand as I led her down the hallway toward my bedroom. We shut the door once we were inside, and I slipped an arm around her waist, pulling her against me.
We stared at each other for a heartbeat of time before I lowered my head and captured her lips in a slow and tender kiss. She slid her hands up my chest and clutched my shoulders. She tasted so good. I never wanted to stop kissing her.
Moving my lips along her jaw and down the side of her neck, I reached around to unzip her dress.
Slowly, I peeled it off her body, pushing it down her shoulders so it pooled at her feet.
I glanced down at her body, and my breath left me in a rush. She was wearing a lacy black bra and matching panties. She was so damn beautiful that for a moment I didn’t think she was real. How could she be? Yet, here she stood in front of me, flesh and blood, warm and willing.
I didn’t deserve her by any stretch of the imagination, but I was so grateful that she was letting this happen. That she was giving me another chance.
She took my face in both her hands and pulled me back down for another kiss. I gripped her hips, then moved to cup her backside and pick her up off the floor. She wrapped her legs around my waist as I carried her to the bed. I wanted to savor her and pleasure her until no other man existed for her but me.
When I reached the bed, I turned and sat, settling her on my lap. We continued kissing, our tongues tangling, as I made quick work of her bra. Cupping her bare breasts, I ran my thumbs over her nipples. She gasped and arched her back, then gripped my hair and held me tight against her.
“Ryan,” she whimpered. “I want you naked.”
I chuckled breathlessly. “Whatever you want, baby.”
She climbed off my lap, so I could stand and strip out of my clothes. When I was naked, she put her hands on my chest and pushed me back down on the bed.
“Woah.” I grinned. “I like this aggressive side to you.”
She smirked as she knelt on the floor in front of me and pushed my knees apart.
“Then you’re going to love this,” she purred before lowering her head to take my erection into her mouth. I dropped my head back and groaned as she sucked and licked my shaft. It felt incredible. There were moments of hesitation as she pleasured me with her mouth, but she was eager and paid attention to the sounds I made to know what was working for me.
I tangled my fingers in her hair but didn’t try to control her pace or depth. I let her stay in charge and just enjoyed the feel of her lips pressed tight around my erection.
