"It doesn't happen enough, in my opinion," Archer added.

"They refuse to accept that they made a mistake and that Kevin was integral to the company's future and believe that all they need is a cash infusion to make things right."

"Where do they expect to get the cash? Is Frank investing?"

"Frank is missing; apparently, he and his wife went on vacation to Mexico and never returned. I'm looking into it, but there is no information on their whereabouts, and they have not been heard from in nearly two weeks." Easton was a fountain of information. "Neither Ted nor Emily appear particularly concerned, which is suspicious in itself."

“What are you thinking?” Archer pressed.

"Perhaps Kevin wasn't the only one they betrayed, but I'll get back with you on that." He said and then continued. "Ted approached his maternal grandfather, but he shut them down, and from what I understand, he can't find anyone to loan him the money to stay in business. Also, most of the staff walked out when Kevin left. They're stuck with a business that is losing both money and staff."

“Have they tried to find Kevin?”

"Absolutely, they hired a PI and have tried to report him as a missing person, but Kevin is an adult, and there was no indication of foul play, so the authorities have dismissed their claims. The man has the right to walk away if he wants to, was what one cop put on the form."

“What about the PI?”

"Silas put Caleb on the case. He’ll make sure the guy has no records or recollection of the job or anything concerning Kevin."

"Unfortunately, I have found nothing about the hitmen or who may have hired them. The two you killed have no past or connections, but I'm still working on it. I'll find the money, man. Eventually, no one can hide these days."

“Thanks, Easton.” He gave Archer a lot to think about.

"I'll let you know when I find more," Easton said and then closed the call.

"Thanks for letting me listen," Kevin spoke, his voice soft and thoughtful. "I'm sorry the business is going under, but I'm glad they won't profit from it. It's a strange feeling. I'm sad and yet justified."

"You have every right to feel however you want to feel, and they have every right to go straight to hell." Archer didn't mince his words, and it brought a smile to Kevin's face, so it was worth it.

Archer stood and leaned over to place a kiss on Kevin's lips. "Good morning, lover." He said with a teasing grin. "Pull yourself together and meet me in the kitchen for coffee and breakfast."

“Are you going to make me breakfast?” Kevin lit up with an appreciative smile.

"Just the basics; my skills are limited in the kitchen," Archer confessed. "Eggs, bacon, toast, and fruit."

“Sound delicious.” Kevin hopped out of bed and headed for the bathroom. Archer stood and watched his gorgeous naked beloved make his way across the bedroom and thanked Fate for being so generous.

Archer quickly showered and dressed and had breakfast underway when Dallas knocked on the door off the kitchen. He let him in and then went back to the stove to finish up the eggs. “You’re welcome to join us for breakfast if you wish.” Archer made the offer.

"I have to meet with Silas in fifteen, but I wouldn't mind a slice of toast." Archer handed him the plate of toast, and he took one and began eating. "I just wanted to give you an update on the situation with your beloved." Archer gave him his complete attention.

"There hasn't been any activity at the cabin. I have one man inside and one covering the outside, along with a team working the area, and they have reported nothing."

"They might expect him to leave the cabin following the attack," Archer interjected.

"True, but it's all they have for a starting point if they're looking for him." Archer nodded in agreement with his reasoning. "I'm going to keep my people there for another two days to see if we get any movement. Easton is researching the dead fellows, and Caleb's team is following up the contract source out of Chicago."

“But for now, we are no closer to finding who hired the shooters than we were yesterday.” Archer could not keep the sarcasm out of his voice.

"You and I both know that Easton will find them. He will not sleep until he hands you their names. The man obsesses when it comes to information gathering." Dallas assured him and quickly finished his toast. Archer handed him a glass of orange juice to wash down the toast. He polished that off in record time and was on his way out the door when he stopped and turned back to Archer. "Congratulations, man. I am so jealous of you right now."

That statement had Archer smiling so large his face hurt. Dallas put the whole thing in its true perspective with those words. He has his beloved, and his life, although messy at the moment, is on the road to perfection. "May you be next."

"From your lips to Fate's ears." Dallas declared as he left. So much was going on, but Dallas was right at the center, and the most important factor was Kevin. He would explain and bring him into his life, and they would live and grow together. He heard Kevin coming down the stairs, so he plated the food and set the table.

CHAPTER SEVEN

Kevin showered and dressed and felt energized. The night with Archer was not completely unexpected, but still a surprise, and it turned out to be fantastic. The man was an expert marksman in many ways. Kevin's body was still simmering from Archer's delicious attention. He was sitting on the edge of the bed, pulling on his boots, when he began to consider the conversation they had in the early hours of the day.
