“Michael was the adrenaline junkie,” I tell her as she laughs. “He was wild back then. Oliver and I could get him to doanythingon a dare. Once, I dared him to walk his grizzly bear through the grocery store and he did it! People ran out of there screaming their heads off. There was fruiteverywhere. The manager ran to his truck to get his shotgun, and me and Oliver had to wrestle it out of his hands. Michael is still banned from the place. He has to get his groceries in the next closest town, about an hour away.”

“I can’t wait to meet them,” she says as she takes another sip of her wine. I refill her glass and mine too.

“You’ll meet them soon enough,” I promise her. “They’re going to be shocked to see you.”

She smiles as she looks at her glass. “What do you do for work?”

I shrug. “The three of us work construction in the summer. We have our own business, designing and building houses and commercial buildings around town. Did you happen to see the post office on your way in?”

“I saw snow, ice, and more snow,” she says with a laugh.

“Right. Well, we built it.”

“I’m sure it’s beautiful.”

“Not as beautiful as you.”

Her cheeks turn a dark shade of pink as she smiles shyly at me. “I guess, if you’re into big bandages in the middle of someone’s face.”

“I’m into you.”

Our lips come together like we’re already on the same page.

I kiss this perfect angel, wondering if I’ll ever get tired of these lips, but knowing that I never will.

That would be impossible.

This mouth was made for me.

ChapterSeven

Tara

Idon’t know what time it is, but I’m not ready for bed.

Leo carries the large mattress into the living room and places it on the floor in front of the fireplace. I fix up the sheets, wondering who this bed is for. Me? Him? Meandhim?

I’m not sure, but one of those options is awfully intriguing.

I feel silly for not making the connection before, especially since it was pretty obvious now that I’m looking back on it. What was I thinking? He told me his mate’s name was Tara and I was like ‘Duh, that’s my name too!’

He must think I’m a total moron.

But come on. I had no idea that an amazing man likethiscould be into a girl likeme. That doesn’t happen very often, so I can’t be too hard on myself for not even contemplating the fact that we could be made for one another.

I guess this proves that sometimes the universe will single you out, get your back, and move mountains for you. It will give you something so good that you wouldn’t have even dared to dream it up in the first place.

My neck begins tingling as I watch him fluff up the pillows and place them on the mattress. I brush my fingertips over the skin under my ear and the tingling gets stronger. The sensation is a demanding one. It’s like an itch I can’t scratch. Like the vibrating area is missing something.

“It’s going to get cold tonight,” Leo says as he tosses another log into the fire. I can’t help but gawk at his broad shoulders. They’re perfectly round. I’ll never be stuck behind a tall guy at a concert again. I can just hop onto these babies and I’ll have a front-row view no matter where we are. “But the fire should keep you warm.”

“You mean it should keepuswarm, right?”

He looks at me with a hungry look in his eyes.

“I mean…” I quickly say with my heart pounding. “I don’t want you to have to sleep in a cold room all by yourself. That’s not really fair. I wasn’t implying that…”

The hunger in his eyes intensifies and it makes the words dry up in my throat. What was I implying? That we should sleep in the same bed?
