Except there was that funky charger plugged in to the wall. Next to her cell phone charger. Where he'd watched her put her phone the night before. Right before he’d helped her take off her clothes.

Peach the Fuzz stood. Came over to him and wound around his legs.

That's when Murdoch's blood chilled completely.

Peach the Fuzz had been curled up—sleeping on top of Zoey's phone. That thing was an extension of her fingers.

There was no damned way Zoey would have left the house without her shoes, her badge, her gun, andher phone. Ever.

Especially that phone.

That phone had the software needed to track those damned bracelets. To trackPenin an instant. She’d checked her sister’s whereabouts twice last night. Just making sure Pen was where Pen was supposed to be. She fussed and watched over that little blue dot on the screen like a digital pet all the time.

No. Zoey would never be without a way to track Pen. Especially after what had happened at the elementary school.

Something had happened here today. Something bad.

And Zoey was nowhere to be seen.

That high-tech fancy tracking device was still plugged into the wall. Shiny gold bracelet right inside. And completely useless now.

There wassomeone leaning over her. Bonnie's eyes popped open. Her head hurt. Her wrist. Her arm felt like it was on fire. She'd landed on it when she'd been knocked down.

That man.Crispin.

Crispin was missing.

Her baby needed her.

Bonnie tried to struggle.

Someone cursed. She turned her head.

And there he was. The man. "Dr. Eastman? What? Why?"

"Call me Gregory, darling." He brushed his fingers against her cheek. Just caressing her. She fought nausea. The way he was touching her—her skin crawled. Instantly. “I am sorry about your arm. It will heal. I’ve made sure it was reduced properly. Most likely just a small fracture. We’ll monitor it carefully, my dear. I’ll give you some more pain medication soon. I need to check countraindications.”

Her arm was…broken? It certainly felt like it. She looked down. Her arm was wrapped in an elastic band. He had done that. While she’d been unconscious.

Darling? Bonnie fought the nausea. Either from the sedative or the pain—or the pure disgust and terrordarlingbrought. "Why did you do this?"

Her words were slurred. She could barelythink.

"I am Dr. Gregory Daviess Eastman. I am going to go down in history. You...belong here with me now. By my side." He brushed a hand down her cheek again. His fingers lingered on her lips. "Yes. You will replace Denitaperfectly."

Denita. "You knew my sister."

"Ilovedyour sister. More than any man could have ever loved a woman. I loved her. Yet, circumstances—circumstances caused by you stealing her children—destroyed her. Until she was killed five years ago. With just our son for comfort. And now I cannot find him either."

Son? Denita hadn't had anysons, other than Iagan. Eden had had him since he was less than a year old. Bonita wasn't ever going to tell this monster where that precious boy was. "I didn't take Denita’s children. She abandoned them to me. That bitch left my youngest daughter on my living room rug next to the cat because Denita didn't want her anymore!"

He slapped her. Just slapped her. Hard. Bonnie cried out.

"Do noteverspeak of her like that. Do you understand me? You will learn to beperfect,Bonita. Or you will be punished.” He pushed his face right next to hers, grabbed her chin in one hand. Forced her to meet his eyes. “Youwill beperfect."

He let go of her face, but he was still right there. Looming over her.
