Page 192 of Hearing her Cries

Escaping was her only real option. She hadn’t understood that he was coming back to save her.

She was so young. And he hadn’t made himself clear enough to her.

With Hector and Ross and Ted’s brother and Gregory everywhere, she had to be so terrified.

He could hear choppers in the distance now.

They had less time to escape than he’d thought.

Hell, little Oakleyhadcalled the cops. Smart kid.

Vaughn needed to think. To plan. But damn, he had a nasty headache, thanks to that sheriff and that bitch nurse. If he ever got his hands on Crispin Maria’s mother again—he’d choke the life out of her and laugh while doing it.

There were three separate ways his precious angel could have gone. And he didn’t have time to search every single one. If he chose wrong, he could just get himself caught. Arrested.

Probably lethal injection, too. Considering how many people he’d killed on Gregory’s orders. If Gregory got caught and started talking.

Or Hector and Jerry…

It could be a matter of them all going down. They’d taken a damned billionaire’s sisters. And the sister-in-law of another. They’d taken the damnedgovernor’swife’s sisters.

They were talking nationwide manhunt for that.

It was probably better for him to let Crispin Maria go now.

For now, anyway.

He knew where she lived. Where her family was.

Where she went to school.

He could find her again. Anytime.

Vaughn hurried outside. There was a van there. Yeah, it was the one they’d used today, but at least it wasn’t the damned bug van. That thing seriously stood out.

Hector was over there now. But he didn’t have time to worry about Hector.

Not when Crispin Maria was waiting.

He turned toward the blue van instead. Where it was parked behind the garage door in the driveway. Hell, he’d have to move it before Gregory could get his precious Lincoln out, anyway.

He would take it, then take one of the back roads off the property. And strategize.

Then…when the time was right, after she’d had some time to get over what Gregory had done to her here tonight…he would find her then.

And they would be together. Forever.

Vaughn rounded the back of the van. Just as the breezeway door opened.

Dark hair blew in the wind.

He could see that. For a moment, hope filled him.

Hope that it was his precious angel. Coming to run away with him.

There was a streetlight above the garage. It reflected off the woman’s mint green scrubs.

Crispin’s mother. Again.
