Dressed in a full black leotard, River glides across the stage doing a sequence of steps then she goes on point into a split jump when the music picks up. It’s a piece that sounds that sounds like it was inspired by Bach’s collection of greatest hits. It’s good.

My thoughts snap when a male dancer joins her on stage and gets real close. At one point they look like they’re about to kiss. I figure him to be the love interest and I know they’re just acting, but that doesn’t make me do anything for my irritation that he’s got his hands on my wife.

An hour later when practice ends I go back stage and find him talking with River. They seem to be going over their steps.

Just before I reach them River lifts her leg into an arabesque and the asshole runs his hand over her thighs. It’s too close and too much for my comfort.

“Hey,” I call out.

The two of them stop. River smiles at me while the guy, who looks like a clean cut Disney Prince, narrows his eyes at me.

“Hi there,” he says looking me over.

“Practice is over, I think you’ve touched my wife enough for today. you can go home now.”

He chuckles thinking I’m joking, but I’m not. River who knows I’m not rushes to my side laughing off key.

“You are so funny Jericho.”

I want to tell her there’s nothing funny but I decide to bite my tongue and stare the guy down instead.

“Dave, this is Jericho,” she introduces me.

I cut her a hard glance when she forgets the most important part of her introduction. “Herhusband.” I emphasize the words and she flashes me that death glare she’s given me one too many times.”

“Yes, my husband.”

“I think most of New York knows that fact,” Dave replies with a nod. “Congratulations on your wedding. Good to meet you, Jericho.”

“Likewise.” The answer sounds genuine but I know my face tells a different story.

“Okay.” River’s voice takes on a high pitched tone, showing her discomfort with my abrasiveness and foreboding presence. “So I’ll see you tomorrow Dave.”

She doesn’t wait for Dave to answer before she’s hustling me away, clearly nervous of whatever is going to come out of my mouth next.

She waits until we’re in the hallway and well out of earshot before that glare of hers comes back and she whirls around to face me.

“What in the world are you doing?” She whisper shouts. “You can’t do the whole crazy husband thing with people here.”

“I didn’t like the way he was touching you.”

Her face falls and her lips part. “We were practicing, and Dave is married with children.”

“Being married with children never stopped anyone with wanton eyes and cheating hearts.”

She continues staring at me with those beautiful lips agape. “Did you just say wanton eyes?”

“Yes.” I nod.

“Jericho. This is crazy, and what are you doing here?” Her expression relaxes and a look of awe sneaks into her eyes.

“Maybe I missed you, wife.” I touch her cheek.

“Missed me? In what ways.” The kind of mischief that I like flashes in her eyes.

“All the ways I should, so I came to get you and take you home.”

“Take me home?”
