“I know.”

“My father will never walk again. Not ever. How can you think saying you didn’t know makes it okay?”

“I don’t think it makes anything better, but I want you to know I didn’t intend to cause anyone harm.”

All I can do is look at him but I can’t see pastthis. The truth.

I understand that he was tricked and I understand that he didn’t know, but none of that makes it right. Worse of all, it’s taken him all these years to tell me.

All these long years.

“River, I’m so sorry.” He steps forward to take my hand but I step back and fold my hand into my chest. “River, I’m truly, truly sorry.”

“I… I can’t. I can’t with you. I can’t.”

His hand drops to his side and he stares back at me looking as if all the life has left him.

I take another step away and then I head for the door. I can’t stay here.

I can’t.

“I will never stop fighting for you,” he says just as I yank the door open.

I stop in my tracks and look back at him.

“I’ll never stop loving you either.”

I turn away and keep going, hating life so much right now I could tear my skin off.

I head to the garage, jump in my car and drive.

There’s no destination in my mind, but somehow I end up at my father’s house.

I walk in and find him in the living room watching tv.

When he sees me he smiles but it falters as he takes in my drained expression.

“River, what’s going on?” he comes over to me.

“I know what’s happening. Jericho told me you came to see him today.”

The color recedes from his face. I’m sure he never expected Jericho to tell me what had happened.

“He did?”

“Yes.”

“And what do you think? Do you still believe in your golden boy now? I told you he’s a Grayson.Selfish. No matter his excuse those people think they own the world. They what they want and when people get hurt they claim they didn’t know. His lack of knowledge cost me everything. Everything. I don’t want to lose you too.”

“You haven’t lost me.”

“Then don’t lost yourself in him.”

I’m already lost, so damn lost I can’t see.

Right now my mind is so fractured I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do.

I don’t know where I go from here.
