Rose petals are scattered all over the floor leading to the bedroom. The floral scent hangs in the air.

It’s like a scene from the movies.

I’ve just got home to a message from Jericho letting me know we were about to do another do over tonight.

This is what we’ve been doing for the last three weeks, recreating moments and doing everything either the same way we did in the past or differently.

Over the weekend we pretended it was the week before my high school graduation so we dropped everything to run off to Vegas. We got back yesterday.

The whole recreation thing is exciting, but I also know Jericho is doing this to keep my mind occupied.

Dad was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder two weeks ago. With all the evidence and his confession of guilt things moved fast.

I still haven’t spoken to him but hearing he was sentence didn’t stop me from feeling bad for him.

I’ve always taken care of him. The visits in the week to see how he was and making sure he eats came from my heart, but I’ve had to accept that my father’s greed drove him to this.

Only time can heal us, then maybe we’ll see what happens. The curse of love is caring, and sometimes it will eat you alive if you allow it.

I’m not going to. I promised myself that I would seize my second chance at life and live it.

There is no more Sasha to worry about, no more debts, no more worries.

All I have is the love of a man I’ve wanted my whole life.

I walk into the bedroom where I find Jericho standing by the window.

He’s dressed in a black button-down shirt and black slacks. In my little summer dress I look underdressed.

On seeing me he smiles.

“What memory is this? I don’t remember rose petals on the floor.” I chuckle.

He steps forward. “This isn’t a memory. This never happened, but it’s about to.”

“What is it?”

“This is how I wanted to propose to you.”

Warmth spreads over my heart. “Really?”

He comes closer. “Yes. There are a number of things I wanted to say that I never got to tell you.”

“Like what?”

He takes my hand with my rings, slides them both off then gets down on one knee.

“Oh my gosh, you’re actually proposing to me again?” I laugh.

“This time I’m doing it properly.” He kisses my hand. “River Marie Grayson, I love you to the moon and back. I would love nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you. I only want to be married if I’m married to you, I only want kids if they’re with you, and I want to live this life if I get to do it with you. Marry me and be mine forever.”

My soul lifts with all the happiness I could possibly feel and I nod. “Yes, of course I will.”

“Thank you. I love you, wife, ” He puts the wedding band on first then my engagement ring and stands to kiss me.

“I love you too, husband.” I can never get enough of this game of ours. It’s like we’re on a perpetual honeymoon.

“Now wife, I’d love nothing more than to feast on your fine body all night.”
