“It’s part of the deal. Take it or leave it.”

“I’ll take it,” I say quickly. I won’t be a fool and argue. He just solved my problems and placed me on a new path. A clear path.

“Perfect. I’ve also taken the liberty of handing in your resignation at Club Edge. You will not be going back there.”

“I’m not going back to the club?” I suck in a breath and grip the edge of the sheets.

“No.”

I didn’t know that the night of the auction would be my last. A sense of relief washes over me I never knew I would feel.

“I don’t want you working at the café either,” he adds. “But you can resign from there yourself. You seem to have more of a special relationship with them.”

“I do.” Kelly will be sad to see me go, but she’ll understand. She knew I’d be leaving as soon as I could get back on my feet.

“Of course, your work at the school and the dance company can continue as you see fit. We’ll talk about all the other details when I next see you.”

“When will that be?”

“Saturday morning. You have until then to move your stuff to my place.”

My God. I didn’t think of that part at all—moving in with him and living together.

“Okay.” I swallow past the constriction in my throat and try to breathe around the sudden adrenaline pumping through my veins.

“You will also need to speak to your father and Gina. Tell them whatever story you like, except the truth. Tell them we got back together.”

God, that’s going to be hard. Not for Gina, but Dad. He’s going to hate me. “Okay.”

“I can’t risk anyone knowing the truth. I hope you understand that.”

Instantly, I think of Eden. “I understand completely, but please can I tell my best friend? It’s easier to make something up to tell my father and Gina, but I can’t keep something like this from Eden.”

“River, this is serious shit, and my legacy is on the line.”

That makes me question his reasons for needing a wife even more.

“You have Luc. He knows about this plan of yours.” I talk fast before he can cut me off. “I promise you on my life that Eden is just as trustworthy as Luc. She would never say anything to ruin either of us.” I pray he doesn’t say no given the fact that I’ve already spoken to her.

“Alright.” He nods, but I can still see his reluctance. “She’ll need to sign an NDA, but please make her aware that if she breaks her silence, there’ll be hell to pay.”

“I understand.”

“Well, we shouldn’t have a problem, then. I’ll need you to read the contract and sign it today. I’ll have my assistant pick it up along with Eden’s NDA at midday.”

“That’s okay. I’ll have everything ready.”

“Great. Looks like we’re in business. See you on Saturday.”

“See you then.”

He tears his gaze away from me then heads out the open door.

I watch him until I can’t see him anymore before I allow everything to sink in.

We’re getting married.

I’m marrying Jericho Grayson, my ex-boyfriend.
