“Jace,” she said softly, reassuringly, “you’ve been nothing but protective of me since the moment we met. You might not have Teo’s temper, but I can tell you’re skilled and…”

I waited for her.

“At first I was scared of you,” I said. “But now I see the truth. You’ve stood by me through everything, and I trust you with my life.”

Her words filled me with an indescribable warmth that reached deep into the depths of my soul. She trusted me with everything -- even though she knew what kind of person I used to be, the kind of person I was -- and in that moment, it felt like anything was possible. Together we could face whatever dangers lay ahead.

“You’re still scared of me, though, right?” Victor said from behind me.

I turned to look at him, shaking my head. “Shut up, Victor,” I said. “You’re not part of this conversation.”

Sofia laughed. “No,” she said. “I mean, I’m more scared of you than I am of Jace.”

“That’s rude,” I said as she moved away from me. “Do you think I need to be scarier?”

Sofia smirked as she looked at me, her gaze filled with amusement. “I don’t think you need to change a thing,” she said. “You’re perfect just the way you are.”

My heart swelled with warmth at her words, and I felt my cheeks flush with pleasure. Despite everything we’d been through, despite all of the danger that surrounded us, she still found the time to make me feel cherished and valued. I couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to have her love for me all to myself, without the distraction of Teo or anyone else.

“Hey,” she said, nudging me gently in the side with her elbow. “You’re getting that look on your face again.”

“What look?” I asked, trying to feign innocence even though I knew exactly what she was talking about.

“The one where you’re lost in your own thoughts,” she said. “The one where you’re thinking about things you probably shouldn’t be thinking about.”

I thought about the way she felt in my hands when I crossed my arms around her waist, and how much I wanted to do it again. Her presence was intoxicating, and I enjoyed every second of it. Even if I only had her for a little while longer, how could I waste any time not thinking about her?

“You mean the way you’re always thinking about sex?” I teased, trying to cover for myself.

“I mean the look that tells me you want to take me right here and now,” she said with a giggle. “Although, with Victor right here, maybe we should wait.”

Victor shook his head. “Don’t let me stop you. I like a good show.”

I glared at him and gripped my fists, but before I could do more than glare, Sofia wrapped her arms around my waist from behind and leaned into my ear.

“We don’t have to do this right now,” she whispered. “And even if we did, if you actually wanted to, you have a perfectly good bed we can wait for. I don’t want to pressure you into...”

“Sof,” Victor said. “You’re hurting the kid. If he doesn’t want to fuck you, I’ll happily take his place.”

She looked him up and down for a second, as if she was considering his offer, and my heart leapt in my chest. If she was going to fuck someone, I wasn’t going to let it be Victor. I wrapped my arms around her waist and pulled her close to me, capturing her mouth in a searing kiss. Her lips were sweet and soft, and I could taste the lingering sweetness of the Hershey’s chocolate she’d been eating.

Her lips parted in surprise at my sudden show of aggression and for a moment I feared that she would push me away, but instead her eyes fluttered shut as she returned the kiss, tangling her fingers in my hair and scrunching her fists into it. A noise escaped my throat as I moved one hand up to her neck, using it to hold her in place. The feeling of her body pressed against me was overpowering. The need to feel her body against my own was almost too much for me to handle.

She pulled back from me, breathless and flushed. Her expression was one of pure lust, and I could tell she wanted more. Maybe if we hadn’t been around Victor, she would have taken whatever she wanted from me right then and there. At that moment, I really regretted turning her down in the first place.

Despite everything in me wanting to keep going, I pulled away from her. I took a shuddering breath and pressed my forehead against hers. “Sof,” I said. “I need to make sure Teo is definitely okay with this before I do anything that could get me killed.”

She nodded, her lips pursed, then slipped her hand into mine. “Come on,” she said. “Let’s go see those ducks.”

TrueCrimeCharm II

Ilookedatmyselfie cam as I approached the warehouse in Winter Haven. It was a rundown, dilapidated building with bars around it and plenty of security cameras flanking the building.

Most of the time, I wouldn’t have gone here myself, but the best source I had told me that was were Sofia Reyes and the Blades were and I wanted to make sure to capture it on camera.

After doing several recaps of the case, my audience itched for more information. I knew the truth: the only way to get more information was from the source.

This Sara chick had never failed me.
