“We find everyone else,” Teo said. For the first time since we had found each other again, I took a closer look at his face. The cut on his cheek looked angry, blood drying over the scab, and his jaw was set. He looked pissed. I knew without a doubt that he would stop at nothing to keep me safe. Jace was weaving the car through the darkened roads, the headlights illuminating the path ahead of us.

“He’s right,” Jace said, his voice tight with tension. “We need to be ready for whatever he throws our way.”

“Are you alright, Sof? Are you hurt?” Teo asked me, concern etched across his face.

“Fine,” I managed to choke out, my thoughts consumed by the image of Victor’s bloodied body and the fire raging behind us.

Teo’s hand reached out to touch my arm, his grip firm but not too tight. “We’ll get through this,” he said. “Together.”

I nodded, feeling a sense of comfort in his words. Even in the midst of chaos, I knew that I had these men by my side.

As we drove deeper into the night, I couldn’t help but think about the twisted world we had found ourselves in. It wasn’t just about the Viper, it was about the whole system that allowed men like him to thrive. It was about those who exploited others for their own gain, and the ones who fought against them.

And it was about us - a group of misfits who had come together under extraordinary circumstances. We were a team, bound together by something much stronger than just survival.

I leaned back against the plush leather seat, feeling the vibrations of the car as we sped through the darkness.

I couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude for the men in the car with me. They had risked everything to save me, and I knew they would continue to do so until the threat had been eliminated. I wish they didn’t need to do that, but the truth was, they had been the ones in this world. Not me. I was simply a guest.

The road ahead was long, dark and uncertain, but I knew one thing for sure – we were in this together. The thought gave me comfort, and I closed my eyes, letting my mind rest for a moment.

“Are you two okay?” I asked.

Teo smiled at me, wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me close. “I’ll be fine as long as I don’t look in a mirror. Jace?”

“I’m fine,” he said. “Shaken, but okay.”

I shifted in my seat, glancing out the window as we drove. The road stretched on endlessly, the trees lining the sides of it blending together into an endless sea of green. The silence in the car was heavy, filled only with the sound of the wind whipping past us and the occasional hum of the engine.

“Where do we go from here?” I asked, breaking the silence.

Teo looked at Jace, who gripped the steering wheel tightly. “We need to regroup with Grayson and Victor and figure out our next move,” he said. “Your brother is with me.”

“And what about the Viper?” I asked, feeling a chill run down my spine at the thought of him still being out there.

“We’ll deal with him,” Teo said. “We always do. And when we do, it’ll be more brutal than anything you ever expected.”

Chapter Thirty: Sofia

Thewarmwindwhippedthrough my hair as we approached the hotel next to the hospital. My heart raced, still reeling from the intense encounter with the viper. But seeing my brother Sam standing there, safe and unharmed, made my breath catch in my throat.

“Sam!” I called out, rushing towards him. Our eyes met, and relief washed over me as he wrapped his arms around me in a tight embrace. “Are you okay, kid?”

“Hey, sis. Absolutely. I’m so glad you’re alright.”

“Me too,” I whispered, hugging him back fiercely. It was a miracle that we had both escaped relatively unscathed after what we’d just been through.

As we pulled apart, Grayson stepped forward, his usually calm and collected demeanor slightly cracked by the concern in his eyes.

“Sofia, are you okay?” he asked softly, placing a hand on my shoulder.

His touch sent shivers down my spine, and for a moment, I was distracted by the intensity of his gaze. “Yes,” I said. “I’m fine.”

He nodded, his eyes never leaving mine, and I knew that he could see straight through my façade. But now was not the time for vulnerability. Someone was in the hospital, and it wasn’t me.

“I mean, I’m shaken, but I’m okay,” I said.
