Chapter Nineteen

Nova

“Jules, grab the boxes with the decorations from my closet!” I yelled down the hall as I went down my checklist. I was running behind, but what else was new? Cian might have a stroke if I actually showed up on time for something. But I didn’t want to be late. This was too important.

“Where do these go?” she huffed from behind me.

“On the cart. Harvey’s going to take them to the jet.” I zipped up my carry-on bag. We had less than an hour to get everything downstairs and to the jet where Cian would be waiting.

We were getting married in four days. Just four days before I was going to be Mrs. Cian Blackwood. I knew it was kinda silly, feeling this ecstatic over just a piece of paper. But I couldn’t help it. He was the other part of my soul, and I wanted the entire world to know it.

That was, if I could hurry the hell up with this packing and make it to the jet.

Harvey dragged the cart of boxes down to the elevator and Juliet stood with her hands on her hips, surveying the room. “I think we have everything.”

“Where are your bags?”

“Already in the car, baby.” She snapped her fingers and did a little dance.

I chuckled as Valik came through and narrowed his eyes at us. “See, this is why we’re late. You guys are up here dancing when you should be in the car.”

“Fine, fine, we’re coming. Can you just…” I stopped talking when he held up his hand, a smirk on his face.

“Let the muscle take care of it, ladies.” He cracked his knuckles and then loaded up his arms with the obscene number of bags I had packed.

The four of us—Juliet, Valik, Cian and myself—were heading up to the cabin tonight. Thora, Felix, Eros, Sophie and Milliani were coming tomorrow, and Owen, Grams, and Archie were coming up the morning of the wedding. It was going to be a fun few days of relaxing and celebrating before the actual wedding, and then Cian and I would be off on our honeymoon. He still hadn’t told me where we were going, only that it was a surprise. Hence the numerous bags I had packed just in case.

An unzipped bag fell from Valik’s arms, and my cheeks flushed as a pair of fuzzy handcuffs and a spanking paddle fell to the ground.

“Shoot, I dropped something.” He turned to put the bags down, but Juliet rushed over and picked up the items, hiding them behind her back.

“Got it. We’ll be right behind you.” She gave me an exaggerated wink, and I bit my bottom lip, trying to contain my laughter. Valik went down the elevator and she stuffed the toys in my carry-on. “You know he would never let you live it down if he found some of your toys.”

“I know.” I zipped up the bag and grabbed her hand as we walked towards the elevator. “You’re going to love the cabins. It’s so peaceful out there.”

“As long as I don’t see any bugs, then I’ll be happy.” She shivered and scrunched up her nose.

“Ugh, same.” I snorted.

Lucky for us, the lodging cabins were more of a luxurious experience versus a knee-deep-in-elk-poop situation.

By the time we got to the private airport and got the jet loaded up, I was already beat. I cuddled up in Cian’s arms as he stroked my hair and sipped on his whiskey. Soon my eyes were shutting, a smile on my face as I inhaled his scent.

The plane jerked, and my eyes flew open to see Cian kneeling in front of me, his eyes panicked. Damn, I must have fallen asleep. I tried to sit up, my side aching from leaning on the armrest. Juliet stood behind Cian, her hand covering her mouth as she watched me.

“Fuck, that was terrifying,” I muttered and wiped my forehead. Sweat covered my entire body, and I breathed out sharply, the air hissing through my gritted teeth.

A nightmare. One that I had had many times in the past, but not lately. Ryzen had been chasing me through the woods, laughing like a maniac as he wielded a chainsaw like that horrible movie where the killer chased all those teenagers.

Cian wrapped his arms around me and squeezed tight, his body an instant comfort to me. “I’m sorry, little star. I went to the back to take a call while you slept.” He pulled back and pushed my hair behind my ears. “I’ll never leave you again,” he whispered and brushed his lips against mine.

“I’m OK.” I tried to smile, but my lips didn’t seem to want to move in that direction. “Let me freshen up.” He let me stand and Juliet followed me to the bathroom. The water was icy as I splashed it over my face, my knuckles turning white as I gripped the sink. Fuck. I hated when this happened, but I would not let it ruin this week. Whatever was buried in my subconscious was fighting to get out, but I pushed it back down and tried to compose myself.

“You OK?” Juliet rubbed her hand up and down my arm, her brow furrowed. “You nearly gave me a heart attack with how loud you were screaming.” She chuckled, but I could tell she was still worried.

“I’m sorry, Jules.” I let her wrap me in a hug and we stayed like that for a moment. “I wish I knew when the nightmares would stop.”

She sighed as she rocked me back and forth. “You were screaming for him. For Cian, at the top of your lungs. God, he looked terrified.”
