“Um, hey, lovebirds!” Elsie hollered from the living room. “I think you need to come see this.”

We rushed to the living room, Cian never taking his gun off Kaviathin. Elsie had the security trail cameras pulled up. The air left all my lungs as the scene unfolded on the television in front of us.

Men—at least six of them, dressed in white snowsuits—were coming through the trees. They had guns slung over their shoulders as they moved slowly, crouching behind trees as they navigated the trail. One of them pointed up at the camera, and another raised his gun. I jumped and clung to Cian as the screen turned to static. A moment later, another camera went out, then another.

“Cian,” I whispered. “What’s happening?” I glanced up at him and his entire body had gone rigid, his jaw clenched.

He roared and grabbed Kaviathin by the scruff of his neck, shoving him against the wall. “What have you done?”

“Those are not my men,” Kaviathin growled as Cian held him against the wall. “I think you know what this is.” Kaviathin’s gaze traveled to me, a knowing look in his eye.

“No.” I covered my mouth, my fingers trembling. “It can’t be.” My whole body was shaking as I tried to control my breath. No, no, no.

“How far away are those cameras?” Althazair asked, not the least bit concerned Cian was about to rip Kaviathin’s head off.

“A mile, mile and a half,” Eros muttered.

“What are you talking about?” Cian shoved Kaviathin against the wall again and again.

I was having a hard time processing what they were saying, their voices turning into muffled sounds. My ears picked up on one sound, though, one I had heard all afternoon. On the screen, three snowmobiles blasted through the snow, heading straight for the security gate, a truck behind them. They were less than half a mile away.

All the blood drained from my face as I stared at the television.

“I tried to warn you, Nova,” Kaviathin said softly.

Orin grabbed the controller from Elsie and zoomed one camera in on the truck.

It was crystal clear who was driving.

I almost couldn’t believe it. My eyes didn’t want to let me see it.

Ryzen.

He was here.

And he was coming right for us.

Chapter Twenty-One

Nova

“It’s a fucking trap.” Althazair clenched and unclenched his fists at his sides, his nostrils flaring.

Juliet squeezed next to me, gripping my hand in hers. Her palms were sweating, or, hell, maybe it was mine. I had known deep down in my gut that something hadn’t been right about Ryzen’s death. And I’d chosen to ignore it. Now he was here with God knew how many men, and he wasn’t going to let us walk out of here alive. Not this time.

I glanced around the room, my eyes narrowing on Felix. His face was as pale as a ghost. It couldn’t have been him. I didn’t think he had the guts to do it. Someone had to have helped Ryzen set this up, so who was it? Who was the one who’d betrayed us? Because when I found out, I was going to fucking kill them. There wasn’t time, though. Time to stop, time to think. We had to do something and do it now.

“Cian,” I whispered. “Let him go.” Cian’s eyes darkened as he looked from me to Kaviathin, and he finally released him. Kaviathin sighed and straightened his tie.

“Can they get through the gates?” I grabbed Cian’s arm. “Baby, can they get through?”

His jaw clenched, and he nodded. “Eventually they will. Fuck.” He rubbed his hand over his face, his finger too close to the trigger.

The snowmobiles and truck were getting closer with each passing second, a feeling of dread taking over me. What could we do? Run? Hide? Fight? I pulled out my phone and held it up. Fuck, at least before there had been a weak signal, but now that a snowstorm was passing through? Forget it.

“We need weapons,” Cian shouted and looked around the room. “Who’s holding?” Orin held up his gun. Eros shook his head, his face twisting in disappointment. Althazair held his hand out and Orin gave him the gun back, both of them glaring at each other. Kaviathin picked his gun up from the floor as he stared at Milliani, a question in his eyes that I couldn’t decipher. The only other person in the house with a gun was Thora.

“I have two nine millimeters in my cabin.” Valik stood, his entire body on high alert as he paced in front of the television. “I could run down and get them.”
