Colliding.

But regardless of the path we took to get here, it was always meant to be us.

Callan and I, we were made for each other.

Together, we crashed. Forever, we’ll burn.

SIX MONTHS LATER

“Ican’tfinditanywhere. I swear I left it right here.” Sterling frantically runs around the bathroom, hair half curled, half pulled into a clip on the top of her head. She’s wearing my personal favorite pair of skinny jeans she owns, and a red lace bra. She hasn’t even put her shirt on yet as she scours the bathroom.

“Baby, I’m sure it’ll turn up somewhere.” I stand at the doorway knowing damn well that I have what she’s looking for. Her promise ring. The one I gave her a few months ago. It was to establish my promise to her, to always keep her smiling. It was perfect for her, a little rose on a golden band and a small diamond in the center.

I know she said no more secrets but, this one doesn’t count. I mean, some secrets have to be kept.

“I just don’t understand how it grew legs or something. I put it right here.” She spins around to face me and sighs out frustration, her hair lifting in front of her face as she huffs.God, she’s fucking beautiful.

“It’s not funny,” she rasps.

“You look like a crazy person, Sterling,” I joke, and she reaches out to backhand my chest.

“Ow, that hurt,” I say sarcastically as I pull my palm to my heart.

“You’re an ass.” She sneers. I walk up to her and plant a soft kiss on her temple, but she playfully tries to wiggle free.

“Finish getting ready, sweetheart. You’re gonna make us late. We’ll look for the ring later.” She turns back to her curling iron. “And put a shirt on before I say fuck dinner and take you to bed instead.” She smirks at me in the mirror and disappears into the closet.

About a half hour later, we show up to the restaurant. It’s nothing too fancy, but it’s a nice and quiet little place that overlooks the city. We’re guided to our table by a waiter and take a seat near the window.

“Why the hell did they seat us at a table with eight chairs?” Sterling’s face is filled with confusion as I pull out a chair for her.

“Maybe it was all they had left?” I lie, knowing damn well that I made the reservation and I specifically asked for a table of eight.

“Whatever, at least the view is nice.” She’s looking out the window, and I’d have to agree, only, I’m not looking out the window...I’m looking at her.

“Drinks?” The waitress asks and I let Sterling order her own drink first, the same way I have ever since the lesson she taught me with that damn strawberry daiquiri. She smiles as she orders a dirty martini and I order my usual whiskey neat.

“This is nice, we haven’t done this in a while.” She reaches over to me and grabs my hand but with my nerves so on edge, I accidentally pull away slightly. I don’t want her to feel how badly I’m shaking.

She gives me a worried look and I pretend like I had to reach for my phone.Just one more secret. This will almost be over with.

“I know, we’ve both been so busy with work,” I smirk as she looks into my eyes. Knowing damn well thatbusy with workmeansfucking in my officemost of the time. But really, she does work hard, and the dealership is running great.

“Here you are. Are you ready to order?” The server places our drinks in front of us before pulling out her notepad.

“Not quite, we’re still waiting,” I gesture to the table, and she smiles and walks away.

“Waiting for what?” Sterling questions, but before I have time to come up with an excuse, a voice shouts her name from across the restaurant.

“Dakota?” Sterling gets up from her seat and walks toward her friend. They share a big grizzly hug before turning back to the table. “What are you doing here?”

“I was invited to dinner, so I came.” Her friend looks over at me and smiles before pulling out a chair across from us.

“You were?” Sterling looks between the two of us and I’m nervous she’s going to work it out before I want her to. “You came all the way from North Carolina for dinner?”
