The tension eases out of both of us when we recognize the voices. Grant presses his index finger to his lips. I nod. Pushing away from me, he turns and moves toward the other end of the row of lockers. When he steps into sight, Jason’s voice drifts down toward him,

“What are you doing back here?”

“Let’s go before Coach sees us and kicks us out of here,” Trip replies.

Grant says nothing. I watch as he jerks his head in my direction before turning and walking back toward me.

“What’s going on? What’s over here—” Jason rounds the corner first. When his eyes land on me, he comes to an abrupt stop. I watch as Trip runs into his back.

“Oof,” Trip straightens as he glares at the back of Jason’s head. “What the hell, Jay?” Trip looks in my direction and actually flinches when his gaze lands on me.

My heart drops. Are they not happy to see me?

Grant closes the distance between us again, ignoring the other two. He stops in front of me and takes my chin in his hand. “Sorry for the delay, Briella here wanted to chat.”

I can hear the shuffling of feet as Jason and Trip draw near, but I can’t look away from Grant’s piercing gaze.

“Talk about what?” Jason asks, coming up on Grant’s right.

“She wants to play again.”

Trip comes up on Grant’s left. All three watch me intensely. There’s no way they can miss the way my body trembles as my nerves get the best of me.

“No, I don’t want toplay. Not like before, at least. I want boundaries. Respect,” I manage to squeak out looking from Trip to Jason. “I want to be your dolloccasionally, but not at the risk of losing everything I’ve worked for. I-I want to be your girlfriend.”

Trip and Jason exchange looks with one another before checking in with their leader. Grant stares at me but says nothing.

“You know we don’tdolabels, dollface,” Grant starts slowly. He steps closer. “However, that being said, you’ve been ours since we first saw you, and that hasn’t changed, and it won’t ever. So, we’ll agree to your terms, but we get to decide what label you receive. Do you understand?”

Before I can respond, Jason steps up. “I get to choose! I found her first.”

Grant rolls eyes but nods. “What should we call Miss Wilson?”

Without missing a beat, Jason replies. “I’m partial to ‘fiancée’.”

W-wait what? My thoughts stutter to a complete halt. As my brain tries to process what’s happening, Grant looks over at Trip.

“I’m good with it, Trip?”

Their tattooed friend nods slowly, his eyes locked onto my face. “For now.”

Fiancée?Fiancée? There were so many different directions I thought this conversation could’ve gone but this certainly wasn’t one of them. I can’t help it as my heart swells to new proportions, pressing against my ribcage with joy.

“You guys are insane.”

At this, the three of them give me nearly identical smirks.

“Insane is what you’re asking for, isn’t it?” Jason asks. “You wouldn’t be here if you didn’t like it.”

“You should know before you agree,” Grant drawls, “that being with us means there will be risks. You know what we’re aiming to do.”

Yes, they want to take down Garry Gipson. I nod.

“It’ll be dangerous. He’sdangerous, and he’s going to pry into your life to see what draws me to you,” Grant warns.

“But we’ll protect you,” Jason butts in quickly.

“Because we take care of what’s ours,” Trip agrees grimly.
