Rayden grinned. “She’s been bumped up to Patchwork. She and I can do things on the ice that none of the other volunteers are up to.”

Leon perked up. “This is great. I got tickets like I do every year, but this year, it is more exciting.”

“They have moved it to the open-air coliseum. Bundle up and bring hot cocoa.” She smiled. “I will see if I can talk some of my food truck buddies into being there for the break and after the final song.”

Rayden smiled. “Miracle.”

James laughed. “We hear it constantly at this time of year.”

She could see the bottom of her plate. “And each time you do, I get paid.” She paused and chortled like a villain before getting to the last roll.

Grey asked, “What?”

“Well, when Dane fucked over a little girl for everything she made, I licensed thePatchwork Pixie, which is why it is performed all over the world. I still got money for school, and I wrote some other small games that I got paid for, and now, I was content to go play at the candy shop, but things had to get complicated.”

Derrik frowned. “What?”

She finished her plate and sat back. “Dane diverted my earnings into his account because he was mad at me for taking Leon’s attention. An adult male deserved so much more than a homeless little girl, after all. Every burn from sugar and late night to get the candy ready went into his pocket.” She smiled. “Hey, since they are down a warm body this year until they can untangle the mess you made of payroll, you might want to actually work there to take on my duties until things are fixed.” She nodded. “Yeah, do three days there, not leaving each day until you have reached my output, and then I will forgive the sixty grand.”

James muttered, “Dane, you took sixty grand?”

“It was over eight years. It wasn’t one year.” He cleared his throat. “Fine. I will do the work for three days.”

Ruby laughed. “Oh, this is gonna be good. Hang on, I am letting Mark know that he can work you like a rented mule. Now, which days are you coming in? You are doing holiday stocking. It is just grunt work with a bit of skill for hours and hours and hours.”

Dane grimaced. “I have to take Teddy to the doctor tomorrow.”

Teddy frowned. “Why?”

“Just want to make sure that everything is good with you. Life with alphas can be rough.”

Teddy nodded and then made a sad face. “Tanner’s memorial is tomorrow.”

Dane stiffened. “I remember.”

Ruby leaned on Marshall. “I am betting that all of his kids are going to be there. There are five born, and then Beth got an early hit on a pregnancy test, and the fact that his parents and myself were the only people in his will. No mention of the kids that his family is supporting.”

Dane stared. “What?”

“Oh, yeah. It was a power trip to get betas pregnant. He loved imagining them being torn apart while having his kids. He was a real sadist.” She sighed and leaned against Marshall’s shoulder. “I am very glad that he’s dead.”

Grey was pale. “He deliberately got women pregnant?”

“Oh. Yeah. They were generally girlfriends of his friends. That was his favourite hunting ground.”

Teddy was grey. “Five kids?”

“And one from assault, though I find it doubtful that she will keep it. That last one wasmyfriend. So, it shows you how he liked to play.”

Teddy looked at Dane, and he looked back with a calm expression.

“You know.”

Marshall took the hit when he said, “We can smell it.”

She looked at the dark Elite with wide eyes. “I... I...” Teddy burst into tears, got up and ran. Dane didn’t follow.

He got a notice from his phone, got up and left, then returned, and sat down again. “She’s getting a car home. Ruby, did he really have a bunch of bastards?”
