My mate was dead. And this bitch had the nerve to claim him?

"Did you force your way into my palace just to make a scene?" Lucifer drawled. "If so, show yourself out. This is no place for drama."

Aphrodite's eerie blue eyes fixed on Lucifer. "Descendants of the gods are going missing. I see you've summoned your own spawn, so you must already know that some have been murdered."

"Don't bring me into this," Ceyx muttered. Which made him the devil's son. I didn't care.

He gave it to me. His lover.

Kai slipped his hand into mine and squeezed. I barely felt it.

"My mate is descended from a god," Emlyn said with barely concealed rage. He stood beside me, bristling, his hands curled into fists. "If what you're saying is true, she's in danger."

The goddess laughed, the sound both beautiful and poisonous. The aura of magic around her grew bigger, so oppressive that I recoiled as she took two steps closer, only stopping because of Lucifer's proximity.

"I don't doubt she's struck a bargain. Cronus must have promised you something for breaking the seal on Tartarus."

My ears rang. A lump rose in my throat.

"Promised me something," I echoed. "My matediedbecause of that seal, because of that titan." I bared my teeth, pain growing so sharp in my chest that every word hurt.

"To quote your monstrous mate," Aphrodite replied with a little smile,"bullshit."

"Mymonstrousmate," I breathed, quiet filling my head.

Power trembled through me, a hundred heartbeats dominating my senses, the ones closest to me the strongest—my mates, Lucifer, Lili, Ceyx, Aggie and—where was Renna?

"Aphrodite, I'd like you to leave," Lucifer said coolly. "I won't tell you twice."

The goddess didn't look away from me, like I'd personally insulted her. "He's entirely feral, isn't he?" she taunted. "One little shove away from becoming a beast forever. I've never fucked a Feral," she mused.

"Shut your mouth," Lili warned, power spiking behind me like her magic was as out of control as mine.

"She's baiting you," Wane breathed, his shadows shuddering against my wings.

Her words were like a lit match thrown on kindling. "But if he's anything like the man who was made from his shadow, he'll bespectacular. There's nothing quite like the feeling of Wynvail's cock sliding into your pussy. Pity that he's dead now."

I was so still, so silent inside, it took me a moment to realise I'd attacked her.

Red light blasted from my curse marks, and I shot out of the protective grip of my mates far too easily, crossing the room in a blink. I latched onto the exhilarated beat of her heart, sinking my power into her and—a sharp-nailed hand closed around my throat.

"Maybe I'll takeallyour mates. Create my own little harem," she gloated, her pale eyes bright. She loved this—hurting me, watching me flinch with every blow her words landed. "Either way you, traitor, are sentenced to death by mutilation."

Sound and motion rushed around me. My mates yelled and snarled, Lucifer shouting, even Aggie spitting vitriol words at the goddess.

"This is my realm," Lucifer raged, dark magic erupting around him, eerily still compared to Wane's shadows. "I won’t allow you to march into my home and take a friend."

Aphrodite's fingers tightened around my throat. I didn’t care, slamming more magic into her heart and trying—and failing—to crush the life out of her. Her other hand flexed, and a pang of alarm and panic went through each of my bonds as—as they were dragged forward four steps. Against their will.

"I just did," the goddess replied.

Three things happened at once.

Pearly magic shimmered around me, making my mates cry out in pain.

Wane threw his shadows as far as he could, wrapping them around Harvey, then Kai until they vanished out of sight. But he threw them away from himself, leaving him vulnerable, and Em was too far, too close to me, for more than a few tendrils to wrap around him.

Aphrodite's magic flared so brightly my eyes pricked and wept, and her pearly magic tore us out of Lucifer's castle. It was nauseating, similar to Renna's sifting magic, but blindingly bright. I couldn't see a single thing around me, but my mates' terror slashed through my soul. Kai's and Harvey's were the loudest; Wane and Em were muted, like a blanket had been thrown over our connection.
