"She's not coming back, is she?" he choked out.

"Shut the fuck up!" Kai snarled, twisting to us with a dangerous wildness that made my instincts pulse with a warning I was too numb to heed. "You shut the fuck upright now!"

"They're bowing," Harvey said, backing up from the edge of the hill, brushing his wing against mine. "Why the fuck are they bowing?"

But the answer came a moment later when power swelled from Olympus and charged through the forest we stood on the edge of. It slammed into my body and my knees buckled, dropping me to the ground with a thump.

My head was forced low, cruel power pressing on the back of my neck, but I growled and held Haley tighter, refusing to give her up.

Wake up, Haley. Come on, you have to wake up.

"He'll find us," Wane breathed. "He'll kill us, too."

"Good," Kai bit out, fighting like a rabid dog against the power pressing us into the ground. "I'm not staying anywhere my mate isn't. But I'm taking the bastard with me. He's fuckingdead."

"Wake up," I breathed, kissing my mate's cheek. My stomach twisted when cold skin met my lips.

"We have to get back to the safe house," Wynvail urged, trying to cast off the dark power pinning us with a flicker of light. "We're running out of fucking time."

"Who cares?" I replied, my voice hollow as I stared at Haley, cold and still and unmoving. Wane was right. She wasn't coming back. She was dead—really, truly dead. "Haley's gone. Kai's right. Let him kill us, too."
