“I knew you seemed crazy last night,” Ty murmured. “But pregnant. Already? Damn, Lia, I can’t believe it.”

I rolled my eyes and snorted. “I can. Like fuckin’ rabbits.”

“Yeah, happy rabbits,” Ty said, before he bent down and kissed Lia, proving to everyone that he should not have been surprised that she was pregnant. “There are a lot of happy days awaiting us, Lia. That’s my promise to you.”

Swallowing hard, suddenly needing a cigarette, I headed outside, and immediately lit up. Kir joined me, grinning and promising a party atThe Cathouse.I nodded, without really hearing him.

Ty’s gonna do it,I thought as my cousin came outside with an arm around Lia.He’s gonna retire.

“Gentlemen, this is Lia,” Ty said, confirming it. “The badass who saved all our asses—twice. The reason we won today. We owe her.”

There was hollering and cheers, along with clapping. Then Ty glanced back at me and gestured with his head behind us.

“Hey Kir,” I said, taking a deep drag of my cigarette. “Wanna help me dump Hendrix’s corpse?”

The Russian grinned at me. “It’d be my pleasure, brother.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

Daniel

Hours later, Kir pulled his uncle’s boat up to the cement dock where one of his men were waiting. We swapped places, his men driving it off, taking it up north to park at his uncle Ivan’s place in Maine. Meanwhile, we headed into the city, being careful not to speak. We kept our heads down, masks and hats in place, dodging and weaving through alleys, until we blended into a busy street, and finally ducked down another, emerging by the loading dock at the back ofThe Cathouse.

Once inside, Kir ripped off his mask and grinned at me. “I am planning on drowning in pussy tonight, I don’t know about you.”

“I’ll have a drink,” I said, and Kir raised an eyebrow.

“Ah, you are in similar boat as your cousin,” he said.

“Not at all,” I retorted. “I’m just exhausted.”

Kir made a knowing face and clapped my back. “Sure. Come on.”

On the main floor,The Cathousewas in full party mode. Kir’s men and several Michaelson men were partying with the girls, who were all rollicking and drinking. Irina was holding court at the bar, and she raised a glass as we came over.

“Thank you,” she said quietly. “I will never forget what you did for us.”

“No worries,” I said and accepted a shot. “To Ivan.”

Irina’s eyes sparkled with tears. “To Ivan.”

Kir also solemnly toasted, then he turned back to the room, shrugging off his jacket and grinning around the room. The big, muscular dude was already attracting glances and he winked at me before sauntering off into a knot of beautiful women.

“The girls will be happy to take care of you, Daniel,” Irina said.

“I gotta get home,” I said. “Thanks for the drink. And I’ll be by to help with things, talk to Kir later this week. But if you need anything…”

“He wanted to take you down, too,” Irina said, and I paused. “I didn’t know all his plans. But he had someone—a strange man. He was following someone.”

“Me?” I asked.

“No, someone else. A woman.”

“Lia?” I asked.

“Maybe.” Irina’s face creased in confusion. “Just—be careful.”

“Thanks,” I said.
