“So what if I agree to stay in my room? I won’t go out. Believe me, I’ve learnt my lesson after last night. There’s nothing I want more than to lock myself in my room and hide away.”

Only, those words don’t ring true, even to my own ears. Ilikebeing here. I haven’t freaked out once, but the thought of returning to my self-inflicted dorm room prison has my palms sweating and my knees shaking.I don’t want to go back to before.

“We think it’ll be safer if you stay here.”

“But you’re my teacher,” I whisper, eyes wide. “He’s my doctor.”

“Things are…complicated. There’s more going on than we can tell you at this point, but I want to assure you that you’re safe here and the guys have your protection and safety as their utmost priority.”

Why?

“And you?”

“You won’t even see me. It’ll be like we never even met outside of the classroom.”

“Can I still go to class?”

“If you wish.” He sighs. “Or you could continue your online learning in your other classes.”

“What about yours?”

“You may drop out.”

“I thought the deadline had passed.”

He fixes me with a firm stare. “I’ll make an allowance to be rid of you.”

Why does that sting so much?

“I don’t want to quit.” I fold my arms stubbornly over my chest, and I swear his gaze flickers downwards for the briefest moment before snapping back up to my face.

“Then attend my class. I don’t care either way. But if you leave this house, one of my men will be with you at all times.”

His attitude completely riles me and gets my back up. I have to fight to keep my anger at bay when all I want to do is fight him. Ihatebeing ordered around.

“So I’m a fucking prisoner now then?” I gape at him, unable to believe my ears. He has to be kidding, right?

“Call it what you will.” He shrugs dismissively and it winds me up even further. There’snothinglike being dismissed when you’re spoiling for a fight.

“I didn’t ask for this!” I splutter indignantly.

“Um, yes, you did,” he points out with a stupid, smug smirk I want to slap off his stupid, handsome face. “You called Cove. You wanted help. Well, you got it. And for everyone’s safety, now that we are potentially accessories to a murder after disposing of a body for you, youwillstay here.”

“I asked forhishelp! Not yours.”

I don’t want the others thinking I’m ungrateful for everything they’ve done, but I didn’t ask to be brought here, or for them todisposeof that girl’s body, and I certainly didn’t ask to stay.

“Yeah, well, we come as a package deal.”

I flush at his words, my mind immediately going to dirtier places than my uptight, stubborn professor probably intended them to.

“Well, thanks for the help in getting me out of there,” I grind out, even though it kills me to thank this arsehole for anything. “But you can let me go now. It’s done.”

“It’s far from done,” he snaps. “You’re staying here and that’s the end of it!”

“What about my meds?”

The thought of going without them, of already being overdue, causes the walls to start closing in on me. I can’t let him see me sweat.
