“The library again!”

“No.” I laugh. “That was a one-time treat.”

“Umm, okay. The book store?”

“Completely the wrong direction.”

“Fine. Hmm. The sports field? Please not the locker rooms.”

I laugh again. “Do you often eat your breakfast in sports facilities?”

“Well, that’s the direction we’re heading! I don’t know where else we’d be going.”

“You’ve not explored that part of campus?”

She shakes her head. “I don’t go out much.”

“I noticed,” I tease. She bumps her hip against mine. “Ow,” I deadpan, not moving a millimetre. She giggles.

This is definitely flirting, right?

“Are we going to the lecture halls? The faculty offices?”

I shake my head at her hopeless grasping at straws, gently guiding her to the right of the main building in front of us, towards the heaving coffee house.

“Cabana café?”

We continue past it until the path forks and the prof’s flat is to our right.

“What’s that building?” she asks, pointing right to it.

“Faculty housing.”

“The teachers live on campus?”

“Yep. Some do. Fairly certain it’s optional, although they’re all given a place to use if they want.”

“And we’re going there? Why?”

“Wrong again. And you’re running out of time, little dot.” I gently guide her along the path on the left.

“I’ve never been to this part of the campus before. What’s back here?”

“Just the woods and our destination.”

“Which is…” she prompts.

“Nice try.” I chuckle. “No prize for you.”

“What? We’re not there yet!”

“Okay. Final guess. What do you think is through these trees?”

“Umm…a haunted shack?”

I shake my head at her and try to hide my grin. “Pitiful. Come on.”

It takes another few minutes of walking through the forest to get to our destination, and when I lead Malia through the trees into the clearing, I eagerly turn around to see her reaction.
