I would have to have a chaperone. It’s your class today, Bhodi will be with me.”

“I changed my mind. I don’t want you going.”

“Why not?”

“Police have been sniffing around on campus.”

“So?” I ask, even though I’m quaking on the inside.

“They’re been asking for witnesses to come forward. Anyone who was near the restaurant.”

Shit.

“But…they don’t know I was. They don’t know who I am. I should be fine, right?”

“Maybe. Maybe not. I’d rather not risk it.”

“I don’t see what’s so bad about me talking to the police anyway.”

“A girl died.”

“Yes I know! And if I can help catch her killer by going to the police with what little information I have…”

He slams his fist down on the table, making me jump. Then he glares at me something fierce.

“One. We disposed of the body.” He thumps the table again. “Two. We cleaned up the crime scene. No one should even know that the girl is dead, or that she was in the restaurant in the first place because we wiped all the CCTV footage inside and outside of the restaurant, and the nearby streets. We also took care of eye witnesses. But by all means, if you think going to the police and telling them that you tripped over a dead girl’s entrails and that she had cat’s eyes and a bushy tail, will help get her justice, be my guest!”

He’s on his feet by the time he finishes his rant and with a final withering glare my way, leaves. The door slams behind him, leaving me wondering what the hell just happened, and more importantly, what he meant by theytook care ofthe eye witnesses.

“Well, I guess he’s back to being an asshole then,” Bhodi quips.

”A bloody arsehole,” I agree vehemently.

“Guess he still hasn’t got laid.”

My cheeks flame at that because Bhodi knows damn well that the prof and I were home alone together last night. And we absolutely did not have sex.Maybe if we had he’d be in a better mood… Stop it, Malia!

“We don’t have masses of time, but you can grab a bagel and a juice or a water to go, if you like,” Reef tells me kindly.

“Thanks. Yeah, I'll grab a juice,” I tell him, keen to avoid their strange-tasting bottled water.

Do they know it tastes weird? It doesn’t seem to affect them the same way it does me, but they all seem so funny about not drinking from the tap.

I make my way to the fridge and grab a bottle of orange juice. Nothing beats an ice cold OJ when you’re hungover, but weirdly I don’t feel bad at all. Given how awful I felt most of the weekend, plus the drinking, I definitely meant it when I told the guys I feel better than I deserve.

“Right, time to go people if we’re doing this. Malia? Are you coming or staying?”

I know, despite his hostile delivery, that everything the professor said is true. I should stay. But…I really need a change of scenery, and I love learning. Surely I’ll be safe going to one class when both Bhodi and the professor will be there?

“I’m coming, if that’s okay?” I ask with a pang of guilt.

This feels like a horror film moment when the stupid ditsy one runs into the woods on a dark night, alone. But I won’t be alone and I don’t have anything to fear. There are no monsters chasing me. No matter what my dreams keep trying to convince me.

“Of course. Grab your bag, let’s go.”

The golf cart ride to campus is a little cosy with the four of us, but Cove drives and Reef lets me sit up front with him, while he and Bhodi climb on the back. I may be feeling okay but I’m not sure my stomach could handle travelling backwards.

“Here, Mai-Tai, you’re in charge of the music,” Cove says, passing me his phone.
