“Uh, yeah it is,” I replied, wondering if he’d caught me ogling Kiernan. “Gorgeous day to be out on the water.”

“That too.” Andrew smiled knowingly as he glanced over at the object of my distraction. “This particular trip is bringing back a lot of memories.”

I nodded. “Your first charter with us, same time of year.”

“I can’t believe how quickly time has flown by,” Andrew replied and shook his head. “When I first boarded, I was hell bent on staying single. And a workplace romance? No way. With my boss? Even worse. But, in the end, the heart wants what it wants. Sometimes you just have to take that leap, right?”

I bit my lip. “How did you know? About Rowan?”

“We were fast friends. I felt like I’d known him all my life. And friendship is important,” Andrew sighed and ran a hand through his dark hair. “Not to mention, Ro’s hot as fuck so I didn’t really stand a chance.”

I smiled at him.

“So many of my yachting friends are not into the relationship thing. It’s difficult in this line of work. I’ve been of the same mindset but—” I paused, suddenly realizing where my thoughts were leading.

“But then you meet someone special, and you wonder, what if?” Andrew finished.

Instead of replying, I nodded, my eyes wandering to Kiernan again.

Andrew followed my line of vision. “You think maybe the ship is five for five?”

I was familiar with Andrew’s joke about the ship and the love spell.

And for the first time since I’d heard it, I was starting to believe him.

CHAPTER9

KIERNAN

THAT EVENING, TURKS AND CAICOS

Spending the day on a lounger was not hard work.

Or work at all.

I kept wondering why Alex needed me here.

There was no security threat. Except for the risk of falling overboard and even then, they’d be better off with the rest of the deck crew than with me. I wasn’t the best swimmer. Hell, I’d probably sink like a stone.

I felt guilty being paid for doing nothing more than relaxing in the sun.

Well, not entirely relaxing...

Earlier today, I’d watched Charlie walk down from the wheelhouse and noticed Rafe and Rowan congratulating him. I was so fucking proud. Charlie was moving up the ranks, just like he told me, and soon he’d be leading his own charters.

Then he glanced over and smiled at me. But not in his usual way.

His grin was flirty but also intense, and it told me he wanted to do very dirty things to me.

The power of that look. I’d never felt anything like it.

I wanted to get up and walk over to him, to walk into his arms, but with everyone around, I couldn’t. And also, that wicked smile of his caused a situation in my shorts and standing up was not an option.

What happened to just staying friends?

Was it because of the hug? The one I’d initiated.

He was looking at me like he wanted more, or was that my hopeful imagination?
