“Welcome to our chaos!” Hazel gestured behind her. “Ready to meet the others?”

A group of Zaarn males stood waiting. As with Tark, they all shared similarities with Raxnor but were all clearly individuals as well, with differences in their facial features.

One of them stepped forward to join Hazel. He had one of the most handsome faces I’d ever seen, looking like an elf in a movie, if elves had been blue and horned. “I’m Kirel.”

“The computer expert!”

“You’ve heard of me?” His voice dropped to a purr, and he flashed me a charming grin.

A growl came from behind me, and all of the sudden, Raxnor bristled by my side, every line of his body vibrating with tension.

“Stop flirting.” Hazel slapped the back of her hand to Kirel’s chest.

He picked up her hand and turned it to press a kiss to the palm. “You know I want only you.”

“I do,” she said. “But Raxnor’s the one you need to worry about.”

Kirel glanced at the big male beside me. “Sorry. I remember what the mating pull was like.”

“It frekking stinks!” A huge male moved over to Mollie, dwarfing her slight frame. He wrapped an arm around her shoulder and gave me an easy grin without a hint of flirtation. “I’m Sul, and I’m taken.”

I chuckled and gave him a little wave. “Hi, Sul!”

Some of the tension dissolved from Raxnor, or at least I couldn’t hear him growl any longer.

Then another of the males stepped forward, his dark-purple eyes coolly assessing as they swept over me. He looked older than the others. If he’d been human, I’d have guessed late thirties versus mid-twenties. “I’m Captain Wrin. Welcome to theDaredevil.”

This was the male who’d made the decision that changed my life. “Thank you for sending Raxnor and Tark to save me. I know it sidetracked them from their mission.”

“It was a simple choice.” The captain’s words were welcoming, but his tone remained professional.

“And I’m not so sure it messed up our mission,” Tark said. “Zo-Fee here is a mining engineer.”

“Even better, she knows metallurgy,” Raxnor added, his voice filled with pride. “She can make us zurilium.”

Pandemonium broke out as every surged forward, surrounding me with an endless round of questions.

Even though I liked people, it would have been overwhelming if Raxnor hadn’t been by my side.

My rock. My safety in this new world.

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Raxnor

As everyone surrounded my Zo-Fee, a growl tore through my throat. There were too many males near her. I’d thought I wanted to give her the chance to choose someone else.

I’d frekking lied, even to myself. Most especially to myself.

A fierce possessiveness welled in my chest. My heart pounded, my hands balled, and a snarl bared my fangs. These might be my friends, but they were too frekking close to my mate.

Zo-Fee wasmine.

“Quiet!” Captain Wrin’s strong voice echoed around the vaulted ceiling of the shuttle bay. When everyone had obeyed, he dropped back to a more normal volume. “This is getting us nowhere. Step back and give them some space.”

His sharp eyes studied me, seeing the way I seethed with barely contained violence. He stared at where my tail rose over my shoulder, the purple end buzzing angrily. The captain tipped his chin in acknowledgement, recognizing Zo-Fee as my fated mate.

Then he glanced around, catching the eyes of the rest of the crew. “Most of you have duties to attend to. You’ve seen the new Hyoo-mon. Now get back to work.”
