“That’s an order.” I pressed a finger to her lips.

A spark of defiance flashed through her dark-brown eyes, but she smiled. Her lips slid against my skin, so incredibly soft and alluring. What would this Hyoo-mon kizzing be like? I planned to find out tonight. My tail began to vibrate, and my cock twitched.

I escorted her to a fresh butterfly, settling her in front of me, her back pulled flush to my chest. As we launched into the air, her fine black hair flew back to tickle my face, her scent teasing my nose. My arms tightened around her, pulling her even closer, and I growled in her ear, “You smell so frekking good.”

Her soft gasp hardened my cock, and it only got worse when she wiggled her pert ass against me.

I wanted to throw all my careful plans out the airlock, to take her here and now, not caring who saw.

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

Vivian

The butterfly came in for a landing both far too soon, and not soon enough. It had been too long since I’d felt Wrin’s arms around me early enough in the day that I had the energy to be able to do something about it. I didn’t want to get down. But also, I really wanted to see his surprise.

He led me across the wide yellow flower petal, past a bunch of little stalls selling various goods. Bird and lizard aliens made up most of the people shopping, with the occasional Zaarn thrown in. I got a lot of stares. Most of them probably hadn’t seen a human in-person before.

“This isn’t one of the restaurants. Where are we going?”

“Patience, hellcat.”

I narrowed my eyes at him.

The edge of the petal touched one of the flowerless fat green stems, and when we reached it, Wrin ran his phone over the surface. A crack appeared, and a door slid open to show the inside of an elevator car.

“It’s fake!” I spun around, looking out over the vista of Breyva. “Are all of the stems artificial?”

“No, most of them are real, but the Sjisji hide elevators and other necessary equipment in these. They do it to maintain a natural ambiance.”

“Well, they certainly accomplished that. Everything looks like part of a giant-flower forest.” I entered the elevator, eager to learn more. “I can’t wait to see where this goes.”

He sent us gliding down to the asteroid’s inner wall, and in only a few seconds, the door opened on another world. If the center of Breyva was sunlight and giant yellow and orange flowers, this was a twilight world, filled with cool shadows, deep blues and greens, and more normal-sized trees.

“Oh!” My eyes went wide as I stepped out into the magical place. “What is this?”

“It’s the druval-flower under forest,” he said. “A second ecosystem that exists below the large blossoms.”

In between the building-sized green stems of the druval plants were twenty-foot-tall trees. Tiny green leaves covered the numerous long thin branches that stood straight up. He pointed to one. “This is the equivalent of underbrush.”

I snorted a laugh.

Regular-sized birds flew above our heads in flashes of dark-blue wings and snatches of high-pitched song. I’d heard and seen them from a distance over the past few days. Now I knew why—they lived in this level of the asteroid instead of venturing up into the central area dominated by the much larger Sjisji.

“Come.” He crooked his arm, and I nestled my hand into his elbow. “Your dinner awaits.”

We followed a winding trail that led away from the elevator. I glanced back over my shoulder, but the fake stalk had disappeared from view. Another few twists and turns, and Wrin pulled me into a small glen surrounded by dense greenery.

I gasped.

In the middle of a clearing sat a wooden table with two chairs and topped with silver-domed plates and cans of drink. On one side of it stood a chaise-lounge wide enough for two, covered in silky golden fabric and pillows.

On the other, a large rock formation grew from the ground, its surface studded with crystals that caught the light of the small glowing lanterns and reflected it back like thousands of diamonds. Liquid cascaded down the center in a waterfall to gather in a pool at the base. But it wasn’t water—it was golden, and a lovely scent rose from the surface, sweet and floral. “What is this?”

“It’s a flower-nectar pool,” he said. “I thought we could enjoy it after dinner.”

My eyes flicked back over to the daybed, and anticipation shivered through me.I think we’re here to enjoy more than the pool.

Wrin sat me and took his own seat, then pulled off the domes covering the food. A wash of rich scents hit my nose, and my stomach gave an appreciative rumble.
