Anthony would have brushed off that comment, but the confidence behind the words made him pause.

From behind his desk, Mickey pointed at the door. “Go on. I’m done with you.”

Fearing he may have made a mistake, Anthony left.

They didn’t speak during the drive to Anthony’s apartment, the silence tense and heavy. Once inside, Chris slumped on the couch and rubbed his face. “Dammit,” he muttered.

I need to fix it.Despite going to see Mickey with the right intentions, that meant little if Chris’s career was going to suffer. Without saying a word, Anthony took off his clothes and got down on his knees in front of Chris. They looked at one another for a long time, until Anthony asked, “Are you angry with me?”

Chris shook his head. “I’m glad you stood up for yourself, but I’m angry at myself. I feel that everything I’ve worked for is in jeopardy, and I don’t know how to fix it.”

“I’ve met enough bullies to know they’re usually all talk.”

Chris stroked Anthony’s cheek. “This bully isn’t.”

Anthony leaned into Chris’s palm. “I’m sure that we can handle that weasel.”

Chris snickered. “Yeah, he does look like a weasel. I hated the thought of him touching you.”

“I didn’t let him. You know I’m yours.” Such words would have been hard to say not too long ago, but now they flew out of Anthony’s mouth with ease. It made him think that Mickey’s words hadn’t only hurt because of their bluntness, but because they carried a shred of truth. Yes, Anthony had parts of him that welcomed submission, but only if it was based on trust and friendship. The thought of being exploited by strangers at some club terrified him.

Chris leaned down and kissed Anthony on the lips. It wasn’t a real kiss, but it was close enough to make Anthony’s pulse speed up.

“I should have been more careful with your photos like I promised.”

“It was an accident. I’m not angry.” Anthony kissed Chris’s knee, then moved to kiss his inner thigh. “Let me make you feel good.” He rubbed his nose against Chris’s crotch and looked up. “Please?”

Chris gave a small smile and shook his head. “Not now.”

“Do you need to leave? I’m out of the cage, and I was thinking—”

“Oh, about that.” Chris pulled out the cage from his jacket. “Stand up.”

Anthony’s heart dropped. He stared at the cage and debated whether to argue, but he was already feeling bad for how things had gone down with Mickey. He stood up and closed his eyes as the familiar pressure around his cock and balls returned. He didn’t even get to have a proper erection in his few hours of freedom.

Chris stood up. “I’ve too much on my mind to fuck you properly, and we’ve waited too long to let it go to waste. When you come, I promise to make it special.”

Anthony didn’t want special; he just wanted to have his release before he lost his goddamn mind. He watched silently as Chris left the apartment.

CHRIS

“Let Roberts do it.”

It was the fifth time this morning Chris had heard that sentence. He usually didn’t mind being the go-to guy for the more complex assignments, but the team’s dependency on him was getting to be a bit much.

“No,” Roger said. He was the junior partner leading the case and technically Chris’s boss at the moment.

Mindy pouted. “But why not him? He can finish it twice as fast.”

Roger rolled his eyes. “If we keep dumping everything on Chris, he’ll either break, leave, or you and the rest will become too lazy to handle things on your own.”

“Fine.” Mindy faked a smile. “I’ll handle that. What are we getting for lunch?”

“Sushi,” Roger said. “Chris?”
