"Ooh, lookie here," leered one man, dropping his beer bottle and lumbering in my direction.

I licked my lips, my pulse racing as they surrounded me.

"She's hot," said another guy with stringy black hair, his hand on my shoulder. I didn’t want them to actually touch me. Just to scare me enough so my wolf could emerge.

"Let go of me," I shouted, flinging his sticky hand off me.

His touch gave me the shivers.

His face twisted into rage as he grabbed my arm, pinning me to the concrete wall. I tried to punch him with my other arm, but a second man grabbed me, chuckling at my attempt.

Oh shit.

I tried to twist and turn out of their grasp, but it was useless. Their male strength was like steel to me. Unless I could shift, then I would have a fighting chance. Closing my eyes, I willed myself to shift.

Please, wolf, I begged in my head. I tried to imagine fur sprouting from my skin.

My adrenaline was through the roof when I felt their hot breaths on my neck.

Suddenly, I heard a loud bark, and the men immediately pulled away from me.No! Jess was too early. I turned my head to look at them, staring at the giant black wolf emerging from the shadows.

"Fuck," shouted one guy, and they all ran in the opposite direction, away from the wolf.

I stood there petrified. That wasn't Jess.

And if it wasn't Jess, then who the hell was it?!

The wolf barked again as he chased the lowlifes away from me. The muscles on his back flexed underneath his sleek, shiny midnight fur. Jess was running towards me, and the wolf immediately lunged towards her.

"No!" I screamed. "She's my friend!"

The werewolf backed away from her and turned his head toward where the guys went, sniffing the air. He was making sure they were really gone, and disappointment set in my belly as I looked down at my still-human form.

Jess grabbed my arm as we watched the wolf shift into his human form in the dark. I caught a glimpse of his massive muscular chest before he snapped a stretchy white shirt on and black pants he had left abandoned underneath the dumpster in his haste to save me.

I first noticed his golden irises as he walked towards me.

His long black hair lay messily around his shoulders as he gazed at me. I had never seen this alpha before in town. Even though I hadn't been around many wolves before, I knew he was alpha by his powerful physique and his alpha bark in his tone.

"He's fine," whispered Jess, also staring at him in awe.

“Stop staring so hard,” I said under my breath.

He stopped in front of me, inspecting the bruises on my arms.

"What are you doing out so late?" he said gruffly while his fingers were wrapped around my arm.

I gulped.

My heart was beating a mile a minute at his touch. No man ever affected me the way he was doing right now. I knew Jess was smirking beside me from the side of my eye, but I couldn't help it. Warmth spiraled in my belly at his touch.

"I can be out late if I want to," I said. "But thanks for saving me."

His jaw flexed at my words. I knew I had hit a nerve there. Alphas loved to be in control.

"You're hurt," he said, his eyes fixated on my bruises. My skin ached with mild pain as he touched my arm. "You haven't answered my question. Why are you out so late?"

"It's none of your concern," I said, getting annoyed and pulling my arm away from him.
