All of it.

Wells jerks his chin, then turns and walks away from us. Releasing my hold on Andrew, I take a step backward. He doesn’t say anything as he follows behind Wells. Spinning around, I wrap my fingers around Claire’s waist and pick her up. She instinctually wraps her legs around me as I turn and press her back against the wall.

“No matter what, Claire, you are my prize.”

She places her hands on my shoulders and grips me there, her eyes wide, her lips parted, and swear to fuck, she looks so goddamn gorgeous. I want to fuck her right here so everyone in the house can hear she’s mine.

“Am I?” she asks softly. “I don’t feel like a prize. Everything that’s happened has been my fault.”

Leaning forward, I touch my mouth to hers. “You’re fucking perfect, hummingbird. I would have chosen you no matter what the fucking circumstances were. You are not just my earned prize. You are my fucking chosen bride.”

Slamming my mouth against hers, I slip my tongue inside, swirling and tasting her. Fuck. I was right. I would have chosen the fuck out of her every single goddamn time.

CLAIRE

I almost beg him tofuck me right here and right now. My pussy clenches. My belly tingles. I want so much more right now. I feel empty, and I know the only way to not feel that way is to have him fill me, stretching me.

He grunts, breaking the kiss and releasing me, then takes a step backward. “As soon as the house is empty, we’ll finish that, and then I have some surprises for you,” Coleman murmurs.

Sucking in a breath, I slide my hand down to his chest, then up to wrap my fingers around his neck. “Surprises?”

My heart starts to race, unsure of what kind of surprise he could have for me. He hums and dips his chin, his lips brushing mine. Then, without another word, he wraps his fingers around my wrist before he turns and heads out to the living room.

Andrew is standing against the wall, Shelby and Hendrick are facing one another, and Wells is sitting on the chair, Parker draped across his lap. The scene looks normal, except I know it’s not. Hendrick has some plan for Shelby, something that I have no clue what it is, but judging by the way everyone has reacted to it, it cannot be good.

Andrew looks like he’s about two seconds from breaking down into tears. And then there is Wells, who just killed someone, and Parker, who found out his father killed her parents twenty years ago. Then there’s the fact that their aunt, uncle, and cousins were killed, some of them right in front of me.

The whole thing is like living on another planet, a trueTwilight Zone. It’s almost too much. I don’t understand why everyone is so calm… including me.

“What happens to Shelby?” I decide to ask when I’ve finished taking everyone in.

They’re all silent. It feels odd. Like the room is watching me. Like they’re waiting with bated breath for what is going to happen, for what Hendrick is going to say. Shelby decides not to say a single word.

Her lips are smiling, and she is acting like she’s got some big secret the whole world wants to know, but she’ll never tell them because she seriously loves holding that shit over people’s heads. It doesn’t even matter if the secret is small like she is hiding a candy bar in her purse or something stupid like that. She acts like she holds some national security information.

“Shelby is going to be the star in her own show,” Hendrick announces. “I know some men who have particular tastes, and Shelby fits the bill for all of it.”

I stare at her, wondering if she’s buying what Hendrick is selling. She is. I want to ask her if she realizes that what he’s saying means that she is essentially going to be a hooker. But judging by the way her chest is puffed up, and her lips are twitched into a small smile, if she doesn’t know, she also doesn’t care.

“I’m perfect for it. Cash and attention. Men who would do anything for me, to see me, to touch me, to please me. It’s going to be amazing. And I’m going to be adored,” she purrs. “And rich.”

None of that sounds like fun to me, but I’m so tired of trying to talk my sister into not trying to enter this life, this world, that I am going to let her think whatever the hell she wants. It’s clear she doesn’t really give a shit what I think anyway.

“Then I hope it’s everything you want,” I say softly.

When I turn my attention toward Andrew, my heart cracks. Breaks for him. He is lost, with nothing and nobody except us. He has us. Because no way am I going to throw him to the wolves, not if I can save him, not if I can keep him.

“We’ll take care of him,” Coleman murmurs.

I look at him, my eyes wide in surprise. His lips are twitched upward. “Will you?” I ask. “I worry.”

Coleman hums. “Of course you do, hummingbird. I’ll take care of him, of you, of everything.”

I know he will. Coleman isn’t someone who would just leave Andrew by himself with nothing. At least, that’s not the feeling I get from him. Hendrick jerks his chin, places his hand at the small of Shelby’s back, and walks my sister out of the room.

I watch her go. She doesn’t even look over her shoulder to say goodbye. In fact, she doesn’t even acknowledge any of us. She is off to her new life, and I have a feeling all that glitters will not be gold in this case.

“Are you going to send me back to the hotel?” Andrew asks, his eyes wide as he shifts his attention from Shelby’s back as she walks through the door to Coleman.
