“They know you are good for them. They will acceptyou.” His lip curled up in a snarl when I mentioned the last. “Figure it out with me. Please, Dominic.”

Everything in me screamed to say yes, but I couldn’t see a way for it to work.

He knew not what he asked. He knew not the weight of what I’d have to give up. This felt like the same proposition all over again. Like he was asking me to choose a life with him or a life with my pack. Neither seemed like they could exist together, as much as I wanted them to.

Maybe this was the beginning of the end. I knew my fate, but no one knew the path to it, and by trying to avoid death, we only ushered ourselves to it faster. He was right; fighting it wasn’t working. Maybe going with it could?

What if all this time in pushing him off and resisting death, I was denying the fates and the prophecy? Maybe this is how it was meant to be. Maybe I was meant to die to bring about peace. The realization hit me hard.

It felt wrong to deny us any longer. I had to step into this with full acceptance of my fate. I made my choice in an instant, flipping the switch. I could’t resist death if I wanted my people to thrive. I couldn’t resist the path there. The universe willed this, and if the Gods wanted my head as payment. I’d hand it to them.

“Okay.” The words left my mouth with full consent. There was no second-guessing or questioning. I had to do this, or I’d be unhappy for the rest of my life. Even if it brought my end, I didn’t believe in regrets.

At least I’d have a little time with Vin as a reward.

“What?” A wave of emotion crossed his face, his icy eyes reflecting the moonlight.

“I think you heard me.”

“I need you to say it again.” He put his lips next to my ear.

“Okay, Vinkettin. Let’s give it a shot.” I pushed down all the doubt and the reasons it wouldn’t work. I locked them in the back of my mind.

“I don’t think you’ve ever said anything sexier to me,” he said, but his words were more a growl.

“Don’t get too comfortable. I still hate you.” I reached between us, closing my fist around his balls.

“You are welcome to hate me day in and day out.” His words were strained and laced with need.

I rubbed my cheek against his, the scruff on mine catching on his smooth skin. “I’m going to kill you if you don’t let me have what I want now.”

Our connection was on another level entirely. Sex was only a need before Vin, but after I craved it. Him. The electricity between us kept me wanting, every hour of every day. Making it nearly impossible to be in the same room with him without a hard-on.

“What do you want, Dominic? I can’t seem to recall.” A low chuckle accompanied his words.

I tightened my grip on him, eliciting a gasp. “You want me to spill all my secrets tonight, don’t you?”

“I want you to tell me everything. I want your lips singing all the things you’ve held back for years. I want you to whisper your secrets over my skin. I want you to undress me with the truth of your words tonight, Dominic. I won’t settle for less.”

I worked on the clasp on his pants. “And what do I get in return?” I wasn’t ready to share half those things. Could I ever get to a place where I shared my soul with another person? I’d try.

“Everything, dearest. Every single thing.”

“Good. Keep it that way.” I pulled my shirt off by the back of the neck, tossing it at his feet.

“Going to let me fuck you out here? Kinky.”

“Who said you’re fucking me?”

His brows rose. “It’s my turn.”

I shoved out of my sweats, revealing there was nothing under. “Okay. I’ll let you fuck me. If you can catch me.”

Vin bared his teeth. “What?”

I leapt over the edge of the deck, falling the two stories to land in a crouch. “You heard me,” I said softly, knowing he’d hear me, before taking off into the forest.
