“So you’d rather watch me through my fucking window, Dominic?”

“No.”

He cocked his head, leaning in like he’d brush his lips across my temple but stopped himself. “What do you want?”

“I don’t know,” I admitted truthfully.

“Do you wish we could cut our bond?” he asked, all the amusement leaving his tone.

“I didn’t ask for this. The universe made us enemies. Our kinds are at war.”

“Only half,” he said without humor, like it made any of this easier. It didn’t matter he was only a daywalker. He’d be rejected by my kind all the same. We were at war with the vampires, and daywalker were just vampire lite to wolves.

“We can’t be together in this life. We’ve gone round and round it.” I was so tired of having the argument.

“So you’ve decided. I’ve claimed no such thing.” He fixed me in his cold stare.

I shivered under the intensity of it. Every atom in my body wanted to give in to him, to the bond. I was so tired of fighting it.

“Do you think I’d be standing here if I’d decided?” I wanted to puke thinking of all the times I’d left, and he’d probably done worse. “I just couldn’t bring myself to stop you before.”

“No one has touched me.”

I snorted. “Right.”

“Why would I lie to you?”

“I saw you pressing your dick to her lips.”

“And no further.”

“Semantics. She touched you.” And I hated it. I hated the idea of anyone else touching him, and I knew what that made me.

“It’s a big difference. I was going to send her over to play with the boys and use my hand when you left, like every other night for the last two years since you told me not to come back.” Smugness laced his words, and it took me a moment to figure out what he was saying.

“You knew I was watching?”

“I called you. You don’t always come, but I get off harder when you do.” His smile returned. He’d baited me.

“Why let her touch you at all?” I asked, not allowing the unease I felt to creep into my tone.

“At some point, I have to break out of this chokehold you have me in.” He lifted a shoulder, deflecting like what he said wasn’t earth-shattering. “Or piss you off enough that you take what you want.”

My chest tightened. I’d never stayed. Could it be true?Had he really not slept with anyone else in the last two years?

“Tell me why you’re here,” he said when I didn’t speak.

“You called.” I’d felt the pull. The fucking tie between our souls. He pulled it often—I was sure of it.

“I call you a lot, but you rarely come.”

“You wanted this.” Anger crept into my tone. “So tell me why you keep pulling on our bond.”The curse of soul ties. He could make me think of him the same way I could bring his mind to me. The connection between us more like a physical string than a mythical bond.

“I wanted to see if you missed me, Dominic.” He lifted a hand like he’d brush his fingers over my cheek but stopped himself.

“How do you know I come at all?” Denying it seemed pointless.

“Cameras. Though you are hard to spot unless I’m looking.” He grabbed my wrist and squeezed.“Your feud is with me.”
