He nodded, eyes narrowed on their destination, willing something...anythingto kick him out of his mental fog. At least then he could make definitive decisions.

Like whether to redouble his efforts to keep his wife?

‘Zeph?’

He shook himself free of all thought and focused on what she’d said.‘Efharisto.’

‘You don’t need to thank me. I barely did anything. A handful of calls and everyone was doing backflips to host Zeph Diamandis’s party. Hell, I think they would’ve probably done it for free for the bragging rights alone.’ There was amusement in her voice and when he pulled his gaze from the mansion that so far offered no answers and looked down at her, she was smiling.

A bright, blindingly beautiful smile that made his heart leap. Again.

Theós, whatever this was, he had it bad.

He stared at her until she gave the tiniest squirm. Had he not known her as intimately as he did, he would’ve missed it.

‘Zeph?’ She searched his face, concern creasing her forehead. ‘If you’re not sure about the party, we can always cancel?’

That chafing intensified. ‘Is that what you want? For me to cancel it?’

She hesitated, licking her lower lip before she answered. ‘I know it’s your birthday, but maybe it doesn’t have to be on such a grand scale?’

‘Yes, it does. I’m done hiding away, yineka mou. After the party, we’re returning to Athens.’

This time he felt the full effect of her stiffening. ‘We are? I thought you wanted six months.’

‘I still do, but the remainder of the time won’t be spent on the yacht.’

‘But what about your...memory loss?’

That aching loss swelled but he pushed it down. ‘If I have to live with it for longer than I want, then so be it. Do you doubt that I can cope? Is that why you’re nervous?’ he probed.

Her smile wasn’t as brilliant as before when she answered with a forced laugh. ‘Not at all. The last thing I’d doubt is your ability to do exactly as you please.’

The trace of acerbity was unmistakeable. But he couldn’t do anything about it because the head steward was striding towards them, informing them they were about to dock.

And at the top of the stone stairs leading to the house, a line of staff waited to greet them.

Introductions brought no sudden enlightenment. No sudden lifting of the veil. He refused a tour of the house when it became clear the event planners were in full flow, readying the mansion for the party.

Instead, he demanded directions to his master suite, and when he had them, he took hold of his wife’s hand.

‘Where are we going?’ she asked.

And, oh, what her husky voice did to his insides. How he wanted to drown in her until all the loud emptiness stopped tolling its presence.

‘I know what I want to do before the madness starts,’ he rasped against her lips when he reached the bottom of the grand staircase.

‘What?’

‘You have one guess,yineka mou.’

A delightful blush stained her cheeks and her breathing grew agitated, just the way he liked it.

Ne, he was addicted. And he feared it was a condition he wouldn’t be free of any time soon.

The sex had helped.

But it didn’t remove the hollow ache. If anything it had exposed it to harsher light.
