The other thing I know for sure, is on our way home, I want to stop and show her this house. I think my realtor has finally shown me the place I’m going to call home. I thought for sure I’d be getting some type of apartment or condo, but when I saw this house, I practically fell in love. And the first thing I wanted to do after seeing it, was show Willette.

I mean, I’m not planning to ask her to move in or anything. But if she’s going to spend time here, she should like it.

I walk into Bird’s Eye the same way I have almost every day since they opened back up after the snowstorm—bright eyed and smiling.

“Now just what are you doing here?” Drew asks, feigning surprise.

“Hey.” I laugh. “Is she ready?”

“Will, your lover is here,” she yells back toward the office.

Willette emerges, throwing her purse over her shoulder and rolling her eyes in Drew’s direction. Her attention sways to me, her face instantly lighting up. Her smile is legendary.

“Hi, babe,” I say.

Willette leans up and kisses me, causing Avery and Hanson to whistle behind her. She sticks her hand back, flipping them off without even looking. As we exit, she asks where we’re going.

“Well, I’ve got your favorite Greek food ordered. Thought we’d pick it up on the way home?”

“Mmm, perfect,” she says, rubbing her hands together.

“Good. We just have to make one stop first,” I say, but I don’t tell her where.

When we pull up to the house, she peers at theFOR SALEsign and then onward at the bright yellow door.

“Where are we?” she asks.

“Just come on,” I reply. I unlock the front door with the key my realtor gave me after I inquired about checking the house out later.

We enter into the foyer, our feet tapping against the gray-stained hardwood in the silence. The walls are painted a lighter shade of gray, with white trim.

I flip on the lights one at a time as we walk through the living room and into the massive kitchen. The white marble countertops and white cabinets are so bright, I probably didn’t even need to turn the lights on.

“So, what do you think?” I ask her.

“This place is beautiful,” she says.

“Good. Because I’m going to buy it,” I say, taking her by the hand to lead her upstairs to show her my favorite part.

The master bedroom is large, with vaulted ceilings and a private balcony. I walk her into the master bathroom, not bothering to flip the lights on in here. There’s a large glass shower with a separate deep soaking tub and double vanity mirrors.

“Oh my god,” she says, taking it all in.

“Right?” I say.

“You’re really buying this?” she asks.

“If you like it,” I say.

“Me?” She looks at me.

“Yeah. I can’t buy a place my girlfriend hates,” I say, laughing.

“Girlfriend?” She lifts an eyebrow at me.

Shit. Too soon?

“Well, yeah,” I say. “I was hoping, anyway.”
