His lips twitched at the vehemence in my voice. “Okay, sunflower.”

“I mean it, big guy. I’m not going to let you keep shouldering the blame.”

He slid a hand into my hair. “Macy, I meant what I said. You’ve turned my life upside-down.”

I smiled, ignoring the twinge in my swollen lip. “You haven’t always been happy about that.”

He made a sound. “I couldn’t imagine it any other way now. Macy, I’m not letting you leave.” He frowned. “I don’t mean that the way Warner did.”

A laugh escaped me. “I know.”

“You want adventures, I’ll give them to you.”

Everything inside me warmed.

“You need pop music and flowers, I’ll make it happen.”

God, could you melt from happiness?

“Whatever you need, I’ll get it for you.”

“Colt, what happened to no complications and no strings?”

He hauled me onto his lap. “Fuck that. I want all your complications, all the strings. Tie those things around me and knot them as tight as you can.”

I touched my hand to his jaw. “You’re sure?”

“Yes. You make me happy, Macy. Even when I don’t want to be.”

My poor grump. “I’m gonna sing, dance, make you origami, put plants in your office, make you do paperwork.”

“I want all of that.” A faint scowl appeared. “Except for the paperwork.”

“Tough, you’re getting it. And my care, and my love.”

He sucked in a breath.

“Scary, huh?” I whispered.

“No.” He shook his head. “I want your love, because I love you too, Macy.”

He said the words fast.

Oh. Tears welled in my eyes. Colton Fury loved me. I could barely breathe.

“I want to love you, take care of you, give you everything you need. Forever. Until we’re both old and gray. Until I turn to dust.”

I smiled. “I just need you. And Daisy.”

He kissed me. He was careful not to bump where I was sore.

My grumpy bounty hunter could be gentle.

Yes, my mom had been wrong.

Sometimes things were forever.
