“Oh, Colton. You’re even hotter in real life.”
Reath made a noise.Fucker. I’m glad he was amused.
I’d run into a few women like this before. They saw bounty hunters as celebrities.
“I’m Marsha,” she said in a breathy voice.
“Did you work with Scott Warner to hurt Macy?” I growled.
Marsha froze.
“Answer me.”
The woman looked at Macy, then gave her a dismissive glance. “I came to see you—”
I strode forward and slammed a fist on the table. Marsha jumped.
“You nearly killed her.”
Marsha flinched. “I didn’t mean to hurt anyone.”
I made a sound, then felt a touch on my arm.
“Colt.”
I straightened, and tucked Macy under my arm. I saw Marsha note the move and her shoulders sagged.
“Talk now, or my brothers and I will pick your life apart and make it very uncomfortable for you—at work, where you shop, where you socialize.”
The woman swallowed, and toyed with her hair.
“Scott Warner,” I said.
“I didn’t know his name. He was some sort of fitness junkie. Looked like those guys who preen around in the gym.” She sniffed.
Reath stepped forward, and rested a tablet in front of her. There was a photo of Scott Warner on the screen.
Marsha nodded. “That’s him. He told me to go to your office, and intimidate her a little.”
“He tell you to put coconut in the fucking brownies?” Under my laser glare, she withered.
“He said it would just make her a little sick. I used coconut oil, so it wouldn’t be noticed.”
A wave of fury hit me. Whatever she saw on my face, it made her blanch.
Macy ran a soothing hand down my arm. “I have a severe allergy to coconut. I had an anaphylactic reaction.”
“She nearly died,” I growled.
Marsha licked her lips, her face pale. “I’m sorry. I never wanted to kill anyone. That guy, he said he loves you, and that you won’t talk to him. And I love Colt.”
“You don’t even know me, woman.”
She clamped her lips together.
Macy stepped forward. “Scott, my abusive asshole ex, is good at manipulating people.”
“Don’t you fucking forgive her.” Damn, Macy was just too bloody nice.
