‘YOGGIE’

SEBASTIAN

I have to bring Tank into this bullshit that is starting to escalate. He needs to know, but more importantly, I need the Intruders at my back guarding my family. I don’t think I’d be able to survive if something ever happened to Nora or Olivia. As one of my foster dads used to say sarcastically, I tend to lead with my heart. With Nora, she took my breath away the first time I saw her. Now that I’ve had her, not going anywhere. She’s it for me.

Knocking on the front door of Tank and Momma Diane’s house, I hear the dogs start to go crazy. Checking my watch, to make sure I’m not too early, the door flings open and Momma Diane is there staring at me before a wide smile appears on her face. She pulls me in and gives me a huge hug before she smiles wide.

“Yoggie, Tank told me you and Glory are together. That really warms my heart. That child needs someone in her life.”

“Momma Diane, I agree. Olivia needs stable folks around her so she can eventually move past all that bullshit and just live a good life.”

“Son, I wasn’t talking about Olivia, though she needs family too. I was referring to Glory. That girl has been living in a jail cell since she came here from out East. Yeah, she’s my daughter’s right hand, but she needs someone special in her life. Is that you, Yoggie?”

Before I can answer, I hear him before I see him.

“Woman, mind your own damn business. And you wonder why I don’t share shit with ya. If our girl, Glory, was to hear you had cornered her ol’ man, shit would be flyin’. Come on in, Yoggie. We just started our morning coffee, so come get a cup. Then we can hit my home office and you can tell me what you need. Now get, woman, I’m in need of breakfast.”

I grin at their constant give and take. That right there is what I want with Nora, but it’s gonna take time. Especially after what she shared with me about her past. One day at a time is all we can do. For now, gonna enjoy this time with these two people, who embody what family really means and how important it is in our lives.

Sitting in Tank’s office with my third cup of coffee after a delicious breakfast Momma Diane whipped up, I’m trying to figure out how to explain to Tank my concerns and what I’m asking for.

“Brother, just spit it out. Don’t even give it any thought ’cause that’s when shit gets confusing and complicated. There ain’t nothin’ you can say to me that would shock me, or even worse, make me look at you differently. Yoggie, since you’ve started, your only thoughts were about our club and each and every brother. You need to understand that as an Intruder it’s a two-way street. What you put out there is returned back to you. So, give it to me so we can figure out how we move forward.”

Taking a deep breath, I start to explain to my president why I’m beyond concerned with what my ol’ lady shared with me a couple of days ago. The worst part is that her brother-in-law, Oscar, has connections with the Thunder Club Knuckle Brotherhood. When she explained that, I had a bad feeling go down my spine. Those motherfuckers are like a bad penny, for Christ’s sake. Between our club and Nora’s, they keep popping into our view and lives.

Tank sits at his home desk, not saying a word while I speak. When I finally finish with a plea for added protection for both Nora and Olivia, he tilts his head at me for a minute or so.

“Son, you got it bad, don’t ya? My girl Glory better realize how lucky she is that you’re in her life. Now give me a minute, will ya? No, ya don’t have to leave, just take a breath will you?”

I watch as he reaches over, grabbing his phone, and dialing but I don’t have a clue who. Well, until he starts talking.

“Enforcer, yeah, brother, morning to you too. Need ya to get up to the main house as quick as possible. Put a shout out to Pussy and Freak, as I need to have a word with all three of you. No, it’s not bad but more of a warning, and thank God we’re getting it. Also, I’m gonna call in my daughters Tink, Shadow, and Glory. We’ve got a situation brewing and we need to get in front of it. Yeah, thanks, brother. Oh, I hear my little man, give Teddy a hug from his grandpa. Tell him I’ll see him soon and we’ll go, just the two of us, to the Wooden Spirits Bar and Grill for lunch and an ice cream sundae for dessert.”

“Yoggie, don’t worry, which I can’t believe I just said that shit, must be lack of something this morning. So, while we wait for our brothers to get their asses here, give me the gossip of whatever ya know. That woman of mine keeps all the good shit to herself nowadays.”

As we sit and shoot the shit, I’m so grateful I literally bumped into Enforcer when my head was up my ass after my last mission that fucked me up. I’ve done all the therapy, both physically and mentally, and have to say being a part of the Intruders has been more help than any of the rest. Yeah, it’s hard and trying, but I’d not change it for anything. I’ve got a family that was missing in my life.

Sometimes it’s hard to swallow some of the shit we do, just because for the first part of my life I was all about my country and doing what was right. Though I learned the hard way what you might think you’re doing is right, it can go to shit in a quick minute. Our club’s mission in the long run is to protect the innocent. Seems, even though some of our work is on the other side of the law, it’s only to achieve our goal of protecting those who can’t protect themselves. Tank is learning from his daughter and her club in regard to the sick and demented in this world of ours. On the top of that list is that brotherhood. We need to put them all to ground, and soon.

The knock on the door draws our attention as Intruder, Freak, and Pussy stroll in, smirks on their faces until they see ours. Then the three of them are on alert. It’s like they can read the air in the room. As Tank starts to explain the situation, I feel eyes on me. When I look around it’s Intruder who’s giving me the eye. I raise my one eyebrow, which he smirks at. When Tank is done, the room is quiet for a minute then Freak jumps in.

“I’ll try to get a bead on her husband and daughter. Hey, no disrespect, Yoggie, just sayin’ what I’m gonna be looking into. Also, I’ll try to get updated information on the asshole brother-in-law in the can. Will keep all of you updated. Is this to be kept under wraps right now?”

Tank looks at me and I give him a nod, which he relays to Freak. He gets up and walks out. Pussy stands and starts toward the door before he turns around and takes us in.

“I get the feeling until we fuckin’ end the Thunder Club Knuckle Brotherhood this shit is gonna keep bogging us down. And what the fuck kind of name is that anyway? Dumb motherfuckers, couldn’t they come up with a badass name that would put fear in folks’ hearts? I mean Thunder Club Knuckle Brotherhood sounds like a misfit band of grown Boy Scouts, for Christ’s sake.”

Tank, Intruder, and I look at each other for less than five seconds before we all start laughing. Our brother Pussy always has a way with words, that’s for sure. Before he can open the door to leave, someone knocks—no, pounds—on the door before it swings open and I see Tink and Shadow first, but then between them I see Nora. I told her what I was up to this morning, but she still seems surprised to see me sitting in Tank’s office.

“Pops, you called?”

Shadow is grinning as Tink growls that to her dad. Bet there has been some intense shit between those three, just by the vibe in the room. As Intruder pulls three chairs from the table in the corner, Momma Diane shows up with a tray of coffee and some morning pastries, which the women fall on immediately. Fuck, they are like rabid starving dogs, for God’s sake. I know Nora ate because I made her breakfast before I left. Both her and Olivia. It was the little one’s day to pick and she wanted pancakes.

Tank waits ’til everyone is seated again and Pussy shuts the door when he finally leaves. No one says a word for a bit until Nora looks at me.

“Sebastian, you weren’t lying when you said this morning during breakfast you’d be reaching out to Tank. I had no idea that would be the first thing on your agenda though.”
