Peyton.

His beautiful obsession.

The only light in his life. The only innocence left in his soul.

“You’re mine, Peyton. You were always mine. You always belonged to me. My world. My wife. My everything.” Nothing was truer. She would accept it eventually.

“Are you insane? What is wrong with you? I don’t even know you—”

“Tell me you belong to me.”

“I am engaged to be married to a man I… I love… I don’t know what kind of mind games you think you’re playing with me, but they’re not going to work. So just release me right now.”

“Say that again, the part about you belonging to Eric Jacobs. Say it one more time, Peyton, and I won’t be responsible for what I do next.”

Kill Eric Jacobs.

Immediately.

She hesitated. He could feel her holding her breath, frowning in confusion about how he knew the name of her ex-boyfriend.

“I’m going to marry Eric Jacobs, but that’s absolutely none of your business.”

She tried to punctuate her words by lifting her elbow with the intent to knock the wind out of him. But her body slipped and slid against him, making his cock harder.

A lesser man might have suffered from her blows; she was quick and smart, but not him.

So fucking perfect.

In his arms, she was as fragile as a delicate little flower, whose petals he wanted to peel apart and then put back together again, just so she would know that everything about her belonged to him—her free will, her control.

Her life.

His blood raged to take her. Part her thighs and bury his cock inside her until he felt her walls grip his shaft so tightly that he’d empty himself into her so thoroughly and possessively that no other man’s name would pass her lips ever again.

Didn’t she know that he had used his cum to cleanse her lips from saying Jacob's name when she was asleep? To erase any time she had let the bastard kiss her.

In hindsight, Declan had no idea why he let the man live when he touched what was his, maybe because he wanted to give up his infamous ways. For her. Fuck, he wanted her to thank him for keeping Eric Jacobs alive. Yeah, that’s why he kept her ex alive.

He wasn’t going to take her now, though. This time, he wanted to teach her a lesson about possession.

Chapter Seven

Peyton might not be a field agent equipped with quick physical reactions andmentaljob experience, but she analyzed volumes and volumes of data for a living. Sometimes, stuff had already happened, so she could look for clues and see patterns to predict future occurrences.

It took her two seconds to realize Declan had removed one of the three bobby pins in her hair, which she had used to lift one side of her locks away from her face. There was no other explanation for how he removed the handcuffs.

She confirmed it by reaching up and discovering she only had two pins left.

She knew she had felt his touch, but she’d been so displaced overall that she couldn’t pinpoint it to one particular instance. The fact that it hadn’t occurred to her to remove anything and everything from his grasp indicated her lack of field experience. She had a desk job, dammit. This wasn’t her area of expertise.

Or, deep down, she believed that, without question or doubt, nothing she did could keep him properly restrained. Nothing anyone did, for that matter. He hadn’t earned the title of most skilled, uncaught assassin ever for nothing.

While she had been momentarily surprised that Declan knew about Eric, she recovered from that quickly enough. He wouldn’t have sought her out if he didn’t know everything about her, including the name of her ex-boyfriend. Her only boyfriend, for that matter.

She wasn’t a random person he had chosen. He had specifically picked her. She just didn’t know therealreason yet, but it was certainly not to make her his wife. He was trying to throw her off her guard, which made her even more suspicious of him because surely he knew she was on the defensive from moment one, her struggles with handling the situation all out in the open for him to see.

What did he really want from her? The question burned her up inside.
