I did take you, though, for twenty-one days. You will never know the sheer torment I felt returning you to your parents, but see, I knew I had to do it. I put my need—my need to have you within my reach at all times—aside so that when the time comes, you’ll see I’m capable of doing the right thing.

I still want to do the right thing, Peyton.

I know… it all sounds like it’s a fucking horror movie, me being a dirty fuck, coming in my hand while I watched you sleep, knowing you were ovulating—so fucking ready to take my seed so I could bind you forever to me with our child. But again, I didn’t. I consoled myself by gliding my cum over your lips, and that’s all I did.

I also didn’t kill Eric Jacobs. But fuck, I want to so badly. But I didn’t.

I guess I want you to see that I can be normal for you, Peyton. But no one in this fucking world will love you the way I do.

I cleansed my past of anything that might harm you, but now I’m doing the right thing one last time.

If you never want to see me again, you won’t.

Yours eternally,

Declan.

By the time she read the last word of his letter, she could barely see. Thick tears rained down her face. She trembled so uncontrollably that she couldn’t regulate her breathing.

His words swirled around her head like a tornado. He stalked her. For eight years. Watched her sleep and touched her. He was the one who had kidnapped her. But the only words that landed and destroyed her were these:

If you never want to see me again, you won’t.

Declan.

Swiping away her tears, she stumbled out of the room, her heart sinking. What had he done? Did he give himself over to the FBI? How was she going to get him back?

Oh god, no. Please no. She had to find him.

Please, god, let me find him.

But the scene in the living room area stunned her further.

Chapter Fourteen

The living room area in the Red Hills Resort, while comfortable, was by no means excessively large.

Peyton staggered backward.

Six FBI agents were littered around the room. All their guns were collected in a basket that Declan guarded while he had one of their guns pointed at the head of an agent whom he had dropped to the floor, threatening to kill him if the other agents so much as moved.

“Declan,” she said. Her blood roared through her. Every part of her throbbed with ferocity. She wanted to touch him.

He whipped his gaze up to her, then rose from his haunches, stepped over the man he had grounded, and came toward her. As he did so, he threw the gun he’d been holding onto a sofa.

“Declan,” she said softly, tears pouring from her eyes. Her brain couldn’t wrap itself around the fact that the man she had secretly, obsessively, and hopelessly loved without even knowing him was standing right in front of her.

But they were going to take him away. She could see the agents taking their guns back. Dear god.

“If you say yes, I’ll find you, kitten.” He cupped her face and lowered his mouth to hers.

“Yes,” she breathed against his lips before he kissed her. The wordyesechoed a million times in her head.

Moments later, he was yanked off her; all six men needed to get him into cuffs. He never once took his eyes off her.

She watched him being taken away, and her heart broke to pieces.

She had known him even if she hadn’t known his name. He was the man who had kidnapped her.
