I kissed other guys and even slept with one.

But there wasn’t another man that could ever make me feel the way Miguel did.

“Miguel, we can’t do this. Not here, not now.”

I could feel people’s gazes on us. I was pretty sure that tomorrow, Reading Nookwould be full once again with people waiting for the latest gossip, and that was the last thing I wanted.

“There you are!” Savannah says, looking from me to Miguel. “Apparently, yourhusbandcame looking for you?”

“What?” I pull my hand out of his grasp and turn toward her.

Is she joking? Because this wasn’t funny.

“That’s what the guy said when he came back to grab his friend.” She shrugs, shifting her attention back to Miguel, a sly smile on her lips. “I guess you’re the husband?”

Miguel flashes her his most charming smile. “Miguel, andyou are?”

“Savannah, Becky’s bestie, and the one responsible for hunting down people who hurt her, so…”

Oh my God…

I grab her hand. “So we’re leaving.”

“But we just started chatting!” Savannah protests.

“Oh, you’ve already said too much,” I hiss softly. “If the rumor spreads that Miguel is myhusband,I will strangle you.”

“I didn’t say anything. I’m just conveying what I heard others say. There’s a difference.”

“I don’t care.” I grab her hand. “We’re leaving. I’ve had enough of socializing for one day.”

“Fine.” Savannah looks over her shoulder. “It was nice meeting you, Miguel!”

“You too!” he shouts back.

“Seriously, Sav?”

“Hey, you were the one who was dancing with him. I didn’t do anything.”

“You pushed me to dance with that other guy, which in turn—” I bite my tongue, stopping myself before I can reveal too much.

Nobody was supposed to know!

And here we were dancing in public, people seeing us kissing. Before I knew it, the whole town would know that Miguel and I were together. Only we weren’t, not really.

“Which in turn?” Savannah prompts, snapping me out of my thoughts.

“Nothing.”

“Mhmm, that’s what you said earlier, and yet it didn’t look like nothing from where I was standing.”

I let out a sigh. “Sav…”

She shakes her head, a smug smile playing on her lips. “Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me.”
