I jerk back as if somebody threw a bucket of ice-cold water over me. My eyes land on Miguel’s before I quickly look away.
“That’s my phone.”
I pull away, my head bumping into the top of the car as I scurry back into my seat.
Seriously, what was I thinking?
Not only did I have sex with my ex, but we did it in a car? What were we? A pair of horny teenagers?
“Rebecca…” Miguel calls out my name, but I’m too busy tugging down my skirt and trying to make myself presentable.
“What are you doing?”
Whatever, it’s a lost cause anyway.
“Trying to find my phone.”
I finally spot it, along with my bag, on the floor. I pick it up and turn the screen to find Chase’s name on it.
Shit.
I answer the call, but before I can utter a word, Chase’s gruff voice stops me.
“Why are you breathing so hard?”
I sink my teeth into my lower lip as my eyes meet Miguel’s, who looks almost as panicked as I am.
“Becky? Where are you?”
“I-I…” My voice stutters as the panic sets in.
Shit, get a grip, Becky.
“I’m on my way. My car didn’t want to start.”
“What? Wait there, I’ll co—”
“No!”
My hand flies to cover my mouth so much for being subtle.
“What do you mean no? How are you planning to come home?”
“I got a ride from…” My eyes fall on Miguel. His hair was mussed from when my fingers ran through it just minutes ago. His lips were swollen from our kisses. “I got a ride. I’ll be home in a bit.”
“What do you mean—” Chase starts, but I interrupt him. “See you soon.”
Not giving him a chance to ask any more questions, I hang up the phone and run my hand over my face.
I was so freaking screwed.
The car comes to life, startling me. I turn toward Miguel, only to find him put together. Like nothing had happened. He checks the mirrors, although the road is completely empty given the time of the night, and starts driving.
Neither of us says a word until he pulls in front of my house.
“Thanks for the ride.” I reach for the door handle, but Miguel’s hand grabs mine before I can slip out.
“We have to talk about what happened.”
