I will say, his mood today has thrown me a bit. Usually, he’s playful and flirty even, but today he seems... different. More uptight than usual. Which no doubt has to do with what transpired the other night when he walked me home.

He’s probably not used to women telling him not to touch them. Then again, his ego doesn’t seem so fragile that something like that would put him in such a mood. No, it probably has nothing to do with me at all. I’d be stupid to think this man gives me a second thought the instant I’m out of sight.

“On what I’m doing. If it’s game day or I’m at the gym, I like something a little more hard-hitting.”

“And when it’s not?”

“If you put a gun to my head and told me I had to choose one artist or band, and only one, I’d probably choose Matt Maeson.”

“Seriously?” I blurt before I can stop myself. Not that liking Matt Maeson is surprising, the man is amazing, but it is surprising that someone like Archer likes him. Doesn’t seem his style at all, but rather my own.

“Why do you say it like that?” He arches a confused brow. “You like him, do you not? You played several of his songs the other day when we were here.”

“No, I do. I just...” I shake my head. “I didn’t expect that to be your answer. I thought you were going to say something like Juice WRLD or Lil Tjay.” I randomly tick off a couple of rap artists I know very little about but know a lot of people seem to like.

“Why would you think that?”

“I don’t know. It’s just what I envision football players listen to.”

“Maybe some, but definitely not all.”

“Interesting...” I pause for a long moment. “See, my questions do have a purpose.”

“If you say so... I mean, I don’t see how my favorite color or what I like to eat helps you know me better.”

“You can learn a lot by a person’s favorite color. For example, people who like black tend to be naturals at commanding an audience.”

“What half whacked website did you read that on?” He snorts.

“What does it matter? It’s true, is it not?”

He seems to consider my words.

“And my favorite food?”

“It says that you’re healthy and care about what you put into your body... Which makes sense.” I gesture to his body without actually looking at it. “See where I’m going with this?”

“I guess...” He still doesn’t seem totally convinced but doesn’t resist when I ask my next question.

“Where did you grow up?”

“Michigan. You?”

“This isn’t about me.” I shake my head.

“But it should be. If I have to sit here and answer all your questions, I think it’s only fair that you answer some of mine, too.”

“That’s not how this works.”

“Well, it is now. That is, if you want to keep going.”

I blow out a heavy puff of air.

“Indiana.” I give in, quickly deciding I don’t have enough time to fight him on this.

“Where in Indiana?”

I clear my throat, not bothering to answer. “Do you have any siblings?”
