“Careful now,” Enzo playfully warns.

“Oh, don’t you worry, I already barked up that tree to no avail.”

I stifle a laugh at the look on Enzo’s face.

“I’m sorry, what?” He clears his throat like it’s difficult to let the words pass.

“Oh, don’t go getting your panties in a twist. He turned me down.”

“Still... You never told me...”

“Are you saying you tell me about every Hannah, Rosie, and Grace youtryto stick your dick in?” she fires back, not the least bit fazed by the way he’s looking at her.

“Well, no.”

“That’s what I thought.”

“I tell you about every Hannah, Rosie, and Grace I fuck,” he corrects. “Not try to fuck.”

“Right. Because you’ve never been shot down.” It’s Tigs’s turn to snort out a disbelieving laugh.

“I’m not you, buddy. I pick women I actually have a shot with.”

I flush at his words.

I like Enzo, but sometimes I wish I could teach him a little tact. I mean, really. Just because I have no interest in dating Tigs, doesn’t mean he has to throw it in his face. I still consider him a friend. Albeit not a close friend but still a friend.

“Enzo.” Alina smacks him across the chest, clearly thinking the same thing I am. He already knows I’m not interested in him in that way. Enzo doesn’t need to rub salt in the wound.

“I guess you got me there.” Tigs blows out a slow breath. “At least if Rory gave me a shot, I wouldn’t take it for granted.” I don’t miss the way he looks over at Alina.

“Careful.” The laughter in Enzo’s voice is gone, replaced by a seriousness I usually don’t see from him.

“Just calling it as I see it.” Tigs shrugs, leaning back casually in his chair.

I notice that not only is he sober this evening, he has made not one attempt to reach for the pitcher of beer sitting half full in the middle of the table. Not sure what that means, but it’s out of the ordinary—that much I know.

“Well, if we’re calling it like we see it.” Enzo leans in closer to the table.

“All right, boys,” Alina interrupts. “I think that’s enough of that.” She holds up her hand, signaling to the waitress. “I hope everyone knows what they want because I’m starving and ready to order.”

“I’ll just have whatever you’re having,” I offer, not really all that hungry.

“Yeah, same,” Tigs agrees.

“Yeah, whatever, babe.” Enzo sulks back in his chair.

“Anchovies for everyone. Got it!” She pauses for dramatic effect as every mouth around the table pops open in protest. “Relax, I’m kidding.” Her attention goes to the waitress, who appears at the end of the table. “Can we get a large veggie pizza, an order of breadsticks, and another pitcher for the table?” she asks as she picks up the existing pitcher and tops off her glass as well as Enzo’s, leaving very little in the bottom.

“Anything else I can get you?” the younger woman asks, looking at each one of us individually.

“A water would be good.” Tigs surprises us all by saying.

“Yeah, for me too.” I’m quick to add on, having no intention of having more than the beer in front of me.

“You got it.” She nods before turning and quickly walking away.

“Water?” Alina looks from Tigs to me and then back to Tigs.
