“Aren’t all men?” She barks out a laugh, slipping her arm from mine to unlock the front door before pushing her way inside, me fast on her heels.

“I do have a question, though.” I let my curiosity get the better of me. “Is he really that good of a football player?” I stare at the side of her face as she unlocks our dorm room.

“He’s something special.” She nods, kicking off her shoes just inside the door before flipping on the light. “I can’t explain it. The whole team is good. Honestly, it’s so much fun rooting for thembecausethey are so good. But Archer... Archer is in a league all of his own. Come with me to their next game.” She turns toward me as I kick off my own shoes and head toward my bed, plopping down on the edge. “You’ll see what I mean.”

“I don’t know.” I chew on the inside of my cheek. “Football isn’t really my thing.”

“And it’s mine?” She gestures to herself, stripping off her shirt before heading to the dresser, pulling out a nightshirt moments later. “You don’t have to be a huge fan of the game to enjoy it. Especially when you know a lot of the people playing. It adds an element to it you wouldn’t have just going to some random game.”

“I’ve been to high school games where I knew most of the players. Heck, I was even dating one of them.”

“High school games and college games are like comparing a youth gymnastics meet to the Olympics. They’re not even in the same stratosphere.”

“But aren’t they away their next game?”

“Yep. They are playing in Stanford. Me and some of the other players’ girlfriends are road tripping there for the weekend. We’re gonna pregame on Friday, go to the game Saturday, and then drive back Sunday morning.”

It isn’t uncommon for Alina to bail on me for a few days at a time, but I’ve never known her to travel for a football game. And don’t think I didn’t miss the wholeother players’ girlfriendscomment where she basically called herself Enzo’s girlfriend.

“So you and Enzo... Is this becoming more serious?” I arch a curious brow in her direction.

“I don’t know. I mean, he keeps asking to make us official. At this point, I think the only reason he agreed to sleep with other people is because he was hoping I’d get jealous and change my mind about not being exclusive.”

“Sounds like maybe it’s working?” I phrase as a question.

“That’s the funny thing. I don’t care if he sleeps with other people. It’s finding out that he hasn’t been that’s really got me thinking.”

“What do you mean? Earlier he was talking about how he never gets turned down and blah, blah, blah.” I wave a hand through the air.

“He was just talking shit to talk shit. He admitted to me a couple of days ago that he hasn’t slept with anyone else in months.”

“So he was lying to you?”

“Apparently. And the whole time I was totally okay with it. But now, learning that he hasn’t been, that he hasn’t wanted to, I don’t know...”

“Maybe realizing how much you mean to him is making you realize how much he means to you,” I offer.

“Maybe.”

“So are you going to agree to be his girlfriend officially or what?”

“I think so.” She tries to fight her smile but fails miserably.

I have to admit, I didn’t see this coming. But I won’t deny it makes me happy. She and Enzo are perfect for each other. I’m glad they’re finally starting to realize it themselves.

“I was thinking I would tell him after the game Saturday. The players usually have a few minutes after the game, before they load the buses to head back. I thought maybe I’d tell him then.”

“Better yet, why don’t you tell him right before the game? My bet, he’d have the best damn game of his life.” I chuckle.

“You know what, you’re right. Telling him before is better. But only if you agree to come with me.”

“Alina...”

“Pleeeeeaaaassssseeeee.” She draws the word out dramatically. “I promise you’ll have a blast.”

“Fine,” I quickly concede, knowing that it’s hard to argue with her when she gets like this. She’ll hound me for the next week solid if I don’t just agree now and get it over with. Besides, I won’t deny a weekend away with the girls does sound... fun. Not to mention, it’ll get Archer off my back about coming to see him play.

“Oh my God! Yes! Seriously, we’re going to have so much fun!” She squeals in delight. “And I’m telling you, once you see Archer play.” She gives a chef’s kiss. “Girrrrrl.” She drags the R.
