Thankfully, she doesn’t linger, losing one shoe just inside the door and the other just outside as she quickly makes her way into the yard, Enzo fast on her heels.

“Babe!” He chuckles, jogging after her.

“They’re actually going to do it,” I say more to myself than to Archer, almost wishing we had lost instead so I wouldn’t have to sit here and watch my sort of boyfriend—oh God, did I just think that—watch my best friend jump into a pool naked.

“Most likely, but we’re not going to hang around and find out.” He surprises me by saying.

“We aren’t?” My breath hitches when he pivots, coming to stand directly in front of me. Seconds later, the weight of his body is pressing me into the side of the pool table.

I would be relieved if I had a second to let the emotion sink in.

“I think I’ve shared you long enough. What do you say we head back to your place?”

I swear to goodness I forget how to breathe for a full thirty seconds.

“I... Um... I,” I stutter, not sure what to say.

On one hand, there’s nothing I want more. On the other, I know how stupid it would be to just jump right into bed with someone like Archer. He may be changing my mind about who I thought he was, but he hasn’t completely erased the doubts I have about his intentions either.

“Relax. I promise to be on my best behavior.” He leans in, kissing the corner of my mouth.

“Somehow I doubt that.” My voice trembles.

“I swear that even if you want to, you won’t put a finger on me.” He kisses the other side of my mouth. “Tonight, I want to give you something.”

“What’s that?” Did I say my voice was trembling before? Well, that was nothing compared to the way it trembles this time.

“The best orgasm of your life.” He slides his tongue across the seam of my lips.

“Archer, I—”

“You’re not ready to sleep with me, I know. I’m not asking for that. I just want to touch you.”

I damn near moan at the way he says it, my body already pinging with the most intoxicating ache I’ve ever felt.

“Okay,” I agree because really, how could I possibly say no.

Archer makes me feel desperate. I want him like I want air in my lungs. And while I may not be ready to sleep with him, it doesn’t mean I don’t want to. I do... I want to so badly that it’s almost painful.

“Yeah?” He pulls back, eyes alight with desire. It only intensifies the ache already churning deep in my belly.

“Yeah.” I nod.

He has me by the hand and out of that house so fast, I’m winded by the time my feet hit the pavement of the driveway.

“Um, we need a car,” I remind him, having already forgotten about Enzo and Alina and that stupid bet.

“I ordered it before the game even started.” He smirks, gesturing to the black sedan sitting at the bottom of the driveway.

“You planned this.” I realize.

Without answering, he tugs open the back door and ushers me inside. I quickly scoot over, allowing him the ability to climb in on the same side.

The ride to my dorm is the most tense ten minutes of my life. The air in the car seems to be charged with electricity and I can feel it pinging all around, zapping my skin in unpredictable intervals.

Archer keeps a hand on my thigh, his thumb doing lazy circles as he stares out the window like he doesn’t have a care in the world. Meanwhile, I’m over here about to go into a full-blown panic attack.

It’s been over three years since the last time a man touched me and even then, it wasn’t all that memorable. But with Archer, I don’t have to think that maybe it will be different. I know it will be. I feel more just sitting next to him than I did when Conner was physically inside of me.
