In here, I keep seeing signs he’s sweet, a bit of a joker, protective as hell, and more. I get the sense there’s more I haven’t seen yet, but I want to.

He tears open the pack of Sour Patch candies Cian smashed into his face and lifts one to my mouth. “Stick around, and you might just find out.”

After giving him a searching look, I part my lips and let him feed me a piece of the candy. No, it should not be arousing. But clearly, there must be something wrong with me.

The movie starts and we all settle down with enough snacks spread around us to feed an army. Minutes later, Hali and Nancy join us with massive bowls of popcorn, and Rune dims all the lights, so it really does feel like a movie theater.

There’s no pattern to how we sit. We move around a ton during the movie, reaching for popcorn, passing around the candy, and cracking open cans of soda.

And we laugh. Like a lot. For such a violent movie, it’s a surprisingly funny one as well.

It’s like being cocooned in a bunker, safe and protected from the rest of the world.

Pack Ashe kind of cozy isexactlymy kind of cozy, I decide as I muffle a yawn.

Waving off the offer of more popcorn, I snuggle closer to the three alphas lying around me on a mountain of cushions that feel like one big, giant nest.

Chapter37

Rune

It’s the next afternoon, and I’m mid-chop when I sense I’m no longer alone.

“Cher?” I finish mincing onion and glance over at the kitchen doorway. Everleigh is filling the space, dressed in a pair of skinny jeans and a white T-shirt. She has her hair piled on top of her head in a messy bun and her feet are bare. And she looks fucking beautiful. “You hungry?”

She shakes her head.

Nodding, I return to my mincing, leaving her to decide if she wants to stay and talk or drift away again. I quieten the pleasure at how good she looks. Relaxed. Like she’s at home. Because she is.

Out of the corner of her eye, I catch her drifting close. She leans one hip on a counter as she continues to observe me. “I took the last suppressants today.”

I scrape the veggies in a big metal pot. “Cian’s out lookin’ to get more. No worries.”

She’s silent for a beat. “Is it safe? Lawrence was just here, and—”

I lift my gaze, holding her eyes. “It’s what you need, so you get it.” I nod at the counter. “Need a boost?”

A hint of a smile curls her lips, and I itch to claim her mouth in a kiss I’m starved for.

“You make it sound like I’m two inches tall,” she mumbles. “I can do it.”

I don’t doubt that she can, but we all keep finding reasons—and excuses—to put our hands on our omega. And Everleigh is ours. Now to get her to realize it.

I lift a brow as if I don’t believe her. Still smiling faintly, she presses her palms on the counter and hops up. Easily.

My eyes linger on the knuckles on her right hand, and a violent need to tear into Lawrence roars through my head. There are no marks and no scars. At least not visible ones.

I look away so Everleigh can’t see my fury.

As I return to cooking the jambalaya I want Everleigh to taste, she kicks her legs as she watches me.

“Movie night was fun,” she says.

I nod. “Usually is.”

“Especially when Cian threw the Sour Patch in Kylian’s face,” she admits with a smile in her voice. “I know I shouldn’t have laughed, but…”

I choke out a laugh. “Someone usually gets hit with something, and it’s always funny when they are.”
