We watch him, waiting for his response. Will he confirm, or will he deny?

“It is not a club I would have joined had I been aware of what its goals were,” Sloane says.

Kylian says mildly, “So, too weak to say no, but not too weak to get your dick wet? Is that it?”

Sloane reaches into the same drawer and pulls out a card. He’s as stale as this room, showing not an ounce of emotion.

The card is a deep burgundy red, almost black, piece of plastic and there is nothing on it. He hands it to me. “Membership is by invite only. Or inherited. Sons only since… well, you understand why women would want no part in it.”

I force myself to take the card from him and not haul him out the window. “Where is it?”

It’s only when I run my fingers over one side do I feel the grooves and indentations I couldn’t see. Someone has embossed the name Asylum on it. If anyone were to find this card on the street, they would have no idea what disgusting corruption it granted entry to.

I guess that’s the point.

Grabbing an envelope from the desk seemingly at random, Sloane scrawls an address on the back and hands it to Cian, who takes it, scans it and turns to me. “About forty minutes away.”

I meet Sloane’s eyes. “You think that’s where Lawrence took Everleigh? This Asylum?”

Sloane wanders back to the window overlooking the garden. “The Asylum has existed in some form or another for over six decades. The highlight has always been the Friday night events.”

“It’s Friday today,” Kylian says.

Sloane crosses his arms behind his back. “Everleigh is an Eddiswood. She’s an omega, but she has Eddiswood blood in her veins. If she ran from Lawrence, she showed him she’s not the docile omega he would want. He will look to get himself another.”

“And there are more omegas just hanging around waiting to be gotten, are there?” Kylian’s voice is silky, his fingers clenching into fists as he stares into the side of Sloane’s face.

Sloane is blind—or unconcerned—with the danger he’s in. “My daughter is worth too much for him to trade. He will auction her.”

Silence.

I take a step toward him. “Whatdid you just say?”

Never have I come so close to the rage I felt when I discovered my family dead, killed by a gang who craved what we had but didn’t want to work for it. The rage that drove me to wipe out their killers one bloody, fury-filled night, nearly killing myself in the process. But worth it. One hundred million percent worth it.

Sloane turns to me. “He will auction my daughter to the highest bidder. The auction will start soon. You must do what I can’t. You must save my daughter.”

For the first time, I see a hint of emotion. Not rage, or even pain, but desperation.

“Yousoldmy sister. I’m going to wring your scrawny neck,” Della snaps, and then she lunges at him, hands balled into fists.

Kylian grabs the back of her shirt and hauls her away from Sloane before she can drive one of those small fists into his face. “Not yet.”

Hewilldie for this. But not until we have Everleigh safe. Who knows if he’s telling us everything, or if he’s even telling us the truth?

Sloane looks away. “I could not prevent it. The rules are clear. Any child becomes open for auction when she’s of age. She could not go to Haven Academy. Someone would have eventually recognized her as my child, so I pushed for Everleigh to be raised with a desperate beta woman who would do anything for money. I encouraged Byron to bid on Everleigh to avoid her ever going to auction. He requested significant funds from me in return, which required me to sell my company.”

“And Everleigh’s mother?” Cian asks calmly. “I’m guessing she was the woman you took advantage of while she was in a heat clinic. What about her?”

Sloane turns back to the garden. “I could not save my daughter from the Asylum, but you can. Go before it’s too late.”

Kylian is still holding a glaring Della back. I turn to Cian next and catch him pocketing an envelope. When he notices me watching, he raises a brow. “Everleigh first?”

And put Sloane in the ground later?

“Agreed.” I nod. “Let’s go get Everleigh.”

“You haven’t asked why we want her,” Cian says, the last one out of the room.
